Newark, Ohio: Built in 1997, this basket shaped building was home to the #Longaberger Basket Company. Sadly, the company relocated all it's employees in 2016 and the building now remains vacant. If you have $5 million, you can move into your very own seven story basket! πŸš™πŸš™πŸš™ #baskets #longabergerbasket #noveltyarchitecture

    @thesem The directions on Roadside America wasn't clear and my GPS wasn't working. So I missed both of those. πŸ™

    Bummer they moved! 😒

  3. dumb.drunk.donkey

    @adoredanew They stopped paying property taxes and they're now underselling the building for $1.55 million. The company is definitely in trouble.

    This is about 45 minutes from where I live!

    Sadly, I passed it a couple of weeks ago and they've let the landscaping slide and the parking lots have started to crack up badly.

  6. dumb.drunk.donkey

    @davidlindley I read about a break in and vandalism inside. Hopefully, the new owners will take care of it.

    @maxxglobal It's definitely a good stop if you're into odd shaped buildings. πŸ˜€

    this is sad to hear. My families business did a catering event at Longaberger homestead back around 2013. The mansion has since been sold and was intended to be used as a retirement home. Not sure if it was ever completed.

    Basket case! πŸ™€

    My college friend lives in Newark, I've seen this in person too! Sad about the company tho! I remember very clearly when they were 'all the rage'.

    @addiekapin I just read an article about the company. It's definitely collapsing. The photo was from 2012. Some other people say the building doesn't look as nice anymore. The other basket in Dresden is in worse shape and Dresden has become a ghost town too. πŸ™

    @stevenatale I keep expecting to spot Yogi the bear crouching behind a tree and drooling.

    It's a thing of beauty.

    @threekidshavei It's definitely amazing in person! πŸ˜€πŸ‘

    @ieateggseverymorning Indeed it is! It's worth a detour. πŸ˜€

    The word is "its" employees not "it's" employees. I hope to see this building some day.

    I'm a Longaberger consultant, so to see this empty is extremely sad. It's a beautiful building, and the holiday decorations were always the best! A friend of mine designed the lobby.

    Saw this once!
