There's someone in this family who doesn't often make an appearance on my feed, my Joshua Ryan. He works ridiculously hard. He doesn't ask for acknowledgement and he rarely complains about his 80-100 hour work weeks, lack of time off, minimal pay, and the sacrifice of not seeing his family and specifically his children as often as he would like. Because of his lack of complaining and his carefree attitude (which is a lot of what drew me to him years ago), I often forget that he is up close and personal with very real suffering every day. I forget, until nights like last night, when he comes home so affected by the trauma he dealt with that he can't hold back tears. He can't unsee the absolutely sickening evidence of an infant that was severely abused and mistreated by its own mother. We live in a world of darkness and hatred and sin, but Josh is blessed to be a small light in this dark world. These doctors so many see as stone-faced, money greedy people, they are just men and woman educated to the fullest. They may seem, at times, desensitized to the plight of their patients but that is only because to break down in the midst of the trauma bay (that you are running) could and would put the care of other people at risk. I am in awe of my husband. I could not function witnessing that kind of horrific thing regularly. It is hard enough to hear about it. I pray that child is wrapped up in someone's arms right now, feeling loved and safe and I pray that someday, they feel the love of their Heavenly Father's arms holding tight to them. And I pray for the doctors, nurses, and techs alike that are on the front lines. I only get glimpses into the challenges of their profession, but I couldn't be more proud of my husband. #doctorlife #residency #mylove

Done with training (IGB) for three months over here and I really appreciated your post today. I'm sorry he had to see something that cannot be unseen or felt. These doctors of ours are warriors who hold inside the worst of humankind, shielding the rest of us from having to see what they have. But, they are truly the best of humankind, and for that, I am truly grateful. We are lucky to call them ours. ❤️
