On Christmas Day ten years ago, Santa placed a sewing machine under the tree for me. I spent all of Christmas Day trying to thread the thing while anxiously waiting to turn up a pair of new trousers I had bought in TK Maxx (I’m not blessed with height!). Now, to say that that sewing machine changed my life is an understatement! Since picking up a needle and thread I have created hundreds of garments, made many ladies very confident, featured on national TV and above all came to understand the true beauty of the feminine form. I no longer judge my body by high street label standards and their miscalculated sizes. Our curves and shape are what make our bodies unique.
Like every adolescent I went through years of being body conscious. However, it was only when I made my own clothes that I could truly express my style and make garments I knew suited my body shape.
Growing up in a society of high street, ‘me-too’ fashion, the beauty of couture (handmade) is more prevalent than ever. Millions of women seeking to look different yet searching the same high street rails simply doesn't make sense.
There is no doubt most of our generation and the generation before us has lost their unique identity. So if your child shows interest in creativity, fashion and style, I urge you to nurture their skills and bring them up to be strong minded individuals.
Sewing really changed my life. So give your child a gift of a sewing machine this Christmas and together you can join me on my YouTube Tutorials starting on Christmas Day, where I will take you through each step of the way.
Happy Monday Folks 💗 Bit of a slow start for me after a busy weekend of weddings and catching up with family 🤗
This week surround yourself with positivity, spend more time with people who inspire you and perform an act of kindness every day! I promise you'll feel better for it 😊
#sewphotohop Knowledge: When I first got into sewing I got my hubby to buy me this book for a birthday present. I remember opening it and closing it straight away as it was much too advanced for me! Now with 6 years experience under my belt I understand every word and term! Funny how far you come with knowledge and support @houseofpinheiro
Day 3 #sewphotohop - Plans 😊 I do love a good plan! With a creative mind it can be difficult to prioritise projects and plans - our minds are constantly in overdrive wanting to do everything. Thankfully a good diary and strict deadlines keeps me in tact! Exciting projects in the pipeline - But first I cannot wait to @thegbsblive this month!! Seemed like a lifetime since it was slotted into the diary but it's finally here 😊
Day 3 #sewphotohop - Heading into the darker evenings remember to keep that sparkle in your life with sequins! Does this fabric ever go out of fashion?! @fabricgodmother @houseofpinheiro
