What’s crazy is that I didn’t even realize it was #nationalmammographyday until I started looking online for the appropriate orgs to tag for #breastcancerawareness!  Serendipitous?  I think so.
My wonderful Mamma is a breast cancer survivor so I starting getting checked at a younger age because of increased genetic risk.  Take care of your boobs, Ladies, and practice regular self exams and get regular mammograms when the time comes.  We love you and we want you healthy and with us as long as possible. 😘❤️ .
Pictured: Classic Vanilla Bavarois a la @marieholmfood dyed and molded to reflect all the lovely colors, shapes, and sizes of all us lovely Ladies.  Turns out I’m not so good at the dyeing, the colors are obviously less than accurate.  Oh well. 🤷🏻‍♀️

In honor of co-workers past who would bring yummy Kaju Katli (essentially, cashew fudge) to work for Diwali, I give you Kesar Kaju Katli Macarons!  Kesar is the Hindi name for saffron.  I’ve never(!) used saffron in my baking so this was a fun opportunity to try it out.  Kaju Katli is ubiquitous during Diwali and is sometimes covered in silver leaf (hence, the design of these macs) before being cut into diamond shapes for easy snacking.  There are many recipes on the web, I would encourage anyone interested to look into making this easy, tasty, vegan, and gluten-free treat!  #happydiwali 
PS: These macs are filled with saffron cashew praline ganache and small pieces of Kesar Kaju Katli. Mildly sweet and aromatic, they’d be delicious with a white tea so as not to overpower the delicate flavor.

Chocolate Pudding with Passion Fruit - Banana Sauce adapted from the lovely @marieholmfood ’s book, Quivering Desserts & Other Puddings.  This is a truly fabulous pudding!  The combination of chocolate, banana, and passion fruit is surprising and so, so special.  Also, for all the Conscientious Collagen Consumers: I’ve been experimenting with @vitalproteins Grass Fed Beef Gelatin to set my puddings and I’m totally stoked by how well they’ve been turning out.  If you’re making gelatinized goodies for folks who don’t eat pork or just want to know where their collagen is coming from, I highly recommend giving it a try!

Tackling my personal required reading list.  As a white person who wants to be a help and not a hindrance, I need to educate myself because it’s not my black friends’ jobs to educate me.  As a white person who wants to be a help and not a hindrance, it’s time to ingest a steady reading diet of truth so that I can boldly push back against the pushback from my fellow white people.  As a white person who wants to be a help and not a hindrance, I want to be clear that, even though I run a baking IG, I will be talking more about these things in future posts. Ok.  In other news, this is the start of a new weekly series I’m calling Afternoon Snack: Simple, homey treats that are quick and easy to bring together.  This week’s feature is Kitchen Cupboard Cookies.  Basically, I mixed up a standard chocolate chip cookie dough, rummaged through the cupboard for some yummy add-ins, and stuffed as many of them into the dough as possible!  It’s a fun way to  invent new cookie recipes while using up those half-full bags of dried fruit, nuts, candies, and other goodies that may have taken up residence in the cupboard a little too long.

For this batch, I added 12 oz semi sweet chocolate chips, 8 oz chopped dates, 2 cups rolled oats, and 3 oz chopped, candied ginger.  The dates deepened the molasses notes of the cookies and, with the oats, imparted a lovely chewiness.  The ginger added a hint of unexpected zesty-ness that paired well with the chocolate.  Pret-tay, pret-tay, pre-tay good! (Yep, a certain someone is really excited that Curb Your Enthusiasm is back with new episodes. 🤗)
