Surface Noise Presents: Paul K. Sunday, December 3, 4:00 PM. Surface Noise is beyond excited to be hosting a solo in-store performance by Paul K. A native of Detroit, Paul came to Kentucky in the late 1970s to attend the University of Kentucky. He soon began composing songs and assembling bands to perform them, most enduringly as Paul K and the Weathermen. In the decades since, he has created 1000-plus songs and countless releases, amassing as impressive a body of work as anyone who has come out of punk rock. In terms of theme and temperament, it feels more accurate to compare him to Lou Reed, Patti Smith, or his beloved Townes Van Zandt than it does to any fellow punk rockers. Paul has a novelist's eye, a sharp silver tongue, and a way with a melody almost unheard of in "the underground." His most recent songs are as good as any he's written, and recent recordings as Paul K and the Killer Elite sound killer indeed thanks to co-writer and lead guitarist Rick Rizzo (of Eleventh Dream Day fame) and, among others, Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche, an early member of the Weathermen back in Lexington. December 3 will mark a rare opportunity to see Paul perform songs from throughout his career in an intimate solo setting. You won't want to miss this one folks!

Surface Noise events are free and open to the public. A $5-10 donation is requested, with all proceeds going to the performer(s). Don't let that discourage you if you're broke, though; all are welcome, always--only at Surface Noise! #paulk #paulkandtheweathermen #livemusic #instore #louisvillerecordstores #onlyatsurfacenoise
