How summer matsuri festivals are celebrated in the outlying rural regions of Japan ✨ .
I took these photos and video clips of the Kosui Festival #湖水祭り on August 14, 2017. This event started in the 1960s to commemorate the people who had passed away during the construction of the Nagase Dam in the early 1950s, a large-scale project that took 5 years 8 months to complete and created numerous jobs for the townspeople during that period. During the festival, about 5000 lanterns are released into the lake, a sight that I really wanted to but could not clearly see as the strong winds that evening swept all the lanterns to the other end of the lake. Thankfully, the mass disco dancing more than made up for it. Swipe to the left for video clips of the energetically well-coordinated dancing 💃🏻🕺🏻
