/ The extension of Kyushu's porcelain craftsmanship /
There are 400 years history of Arita Ware in Sage prefecture, I have visited Kouraku Kiln's Tokunaga Cermamics Ltd.co 3 years ago and it all started from here. Initially my design ideas were mainly calligraphy related, from the deconstruction of each letter form, to an art piece incorporating with flourishes as a whole. The porcelain were produced in advance, all I did was the decoration, that which cannot satisfy my gratification. So this year I joined the design progress of the porcelain with the aim of the production of a first ever porcelain pen holder.
The craftsmen in Kouraku Kiln were all so keen on helping me on this idea, because this was also a new challenge even for them. They were being so meticulous that from solid casting, glazing, and firing process etc were all measured in 0.5 millimeter, and only proceed to the next stage when the size fits. And the results were rewarding as it fit the pen inserts already on our first attempt.
We have created this ceramic pen holder, and have discussed the mass production of this product, the craftsmen are still working on some detail changes to guarantee it will be flawless in every production.
This is a new chapter as my life as a traditional pen holder maker, it is groundbreaking for me and also I hope this would also be groundbreaking for the pen holder community. By combing ceramics and wood, it enhances the sophistication of a pen holder, and with it it creates beautiful penmanship as the extension of the beauty. - / 九州陶瓷工藝的伸展 /
