It actually happened! Managed to summit Mt. Langley in 8 hours car-to-car yesterday with @ajmirabito. Really had to dig deep with that last thousand feet to the summit after a speedy run to the steeps. All-in-all ended up with a 21-mile day, 4,200' of elevation gain and now my legs don't work. Can't wait for the next objective!
“When the Seeker is ready, the Master will appear.” Traveling to high mountains is an exercise in chasing high adventure, a physical challenge, and a means of discovering wisdom.
After claiming the summits of Belford and Oxford this morning in a fierce gale and snow that reached the tops of my boots, I encountered a couple in their 60s, Bill and Barbara, and a conversation, which began as a simple courtesy between passing climbers, turned into a lengthy discussion as we descended Missouri Gulch.
Bill and Barbara are from Aspen, but after we joked about our competing home towns, I reveled in hearing their 14er adventures dating back decades, including Bill's first 14er entailing a rappel off Pyramid Peak on Labor Day...in a blizzard.
As we traded tales of harrowing adventures we'd survived, Bill and Barbara's (secret) favorite camping spot, and the ethics surrounding signage on Capitol Peak, I observed Bill and Barbara's dynamic, and how they effortlessly played off one another.
Decades, I can only assume, of practice.
As we departed at the trailhead, I watched the couple doing some yoga before jumping in their Toyota 4Runner, and thought, "Someday, that'll be Mrs. Gadberry and me." But another revelation followed shortly, which was this: The Missus, whoever or wherever she may be, shall appear only when Providence deems me worthy of that grandest adventure.
Until that day...#45 14ers are complete, and the adventure of becoming a greater outdoorsman, and the quest to become a man of honor and integrity, continues.
So we did a thing today with @eckstro1 . However the circumstances were not necesseraly perfect for a "first summit" I am incredibly happy and proud I had him coming with me and finishing up his very first #14er (which is the HIGHEST peak in #Colorado ) The view was worth everything. #challenge#mtelbert#adventure#outdoorsy#gopro#savej1
We went to Breckenridge last weekend! Climbed #mtbelford with my dad. Oh, and @joanna_miller1019 decided it was a great place for an appendectomy (the last picture is the view from her hospital room) #14er
Holy Fuck! Never quite experienced a hike like that. Mother nature threw all she could at us. 20 degree weather, snow, sleet, 30-40 mph wind gusts, and then gave us some sun for our walk back down. The videos and pictures don't even do it justice. 14,245 feet conquered. @katympotts #quandarypeak#14er#colorado#ithoughtitwasgonnabewarmer
Here's a less zoomed in version of the one I posted yesterday ...more road, sky, flowers. Maybe different lens. If you know me I prefer taking photos to editing and printing them but I'm trying to learn light room and have a new printer gathering dust. I'll try with these two. Think I do enough with software in my daily life anytime I get near light room or some other editing program I just want to .. well, go outside. Anyone want to be my editor? I trained in a lot of these things when I learned cartography and GIS and large format map printing and I'm super picky I think that's my major problem I'm afraid of how time consuming it will be to learn al the new functions that stand in between me and my perfect print and no way am I just sending it off to costco or some unknown without knowing what all those settings for are myself .....I know enough to know what I don't know I guess. Guess I'll watch light room videos since I spent all my money and can't go anywhere anyway..... boring ... oh yeah. Ps. Mt. Whitney is the tallest mountain in the lower 48. It's big. Huge. It's right there. #mtwhitney#hike#climb#wildflowers#helpmeedit#flowers#easternsierra#countryroad#lonepine#14er#mountains#sierranevada#landscapephotography#natgeo#tall#upthere#photography#sonyimages#sonyalpha#sonya6000
