Momming won over racing this morning.  I was supposed to drive 2.5 hours round trip to Newport, RI for a 10K, but my son got sick & I had to forgo the trip.  This was all I could squeeze in before my husband left for church.  While I was out there I realized it was the right call anyway because the roads still had so many slick spots.  Fine for running, but not ideal for "racing". And I was sooooooo looking forward to attacking this very detailed race plan I got!  Such a gamble registering for winter races in New England.  My next one is Jan 14th, hoping for better luck🤞🏻.

Yesterday I ran my first official 5K & as you can see, I was pretty excited!🙋🏻This was more than just a run for me, it was a reminder of how far I have come. 105lbs ago I could barely run a minute straight & my time today was 29.15, no breaks🙌🏻 Special shoutout to my gf Rach for the huge hug at the end😭 & my hub for braving the cold & being my numero uno❤️

HELLOOOOOO BBG FAM! I know I’ve been pretty MIA the past few months. I’ve been a busy bee!! With thanksgiving and I just got back from Mexico, then it was my birthday, starting a second job, and then Christmas coming up its just been crazy! I haven’t been quite as focused on my health as I’d like to be but I’m still so proud of how far I’ve come this year! Life happens ya know! 🤷🏻‍♀️I can’t wait to start this next year off right too! Next year’s big goal is to run one 5k race a month! I’m not a huge runner. But I used to like it and I think this will help me get back into it! Today was my first day of training! And apart from starting to rain in the middle of it it went really well! I’m super pumped! I’m going to post the races I’m planning on doing on the @bbgkc_ Facebook page for any of you awesome ladies that want to join me! I hope y’all are having a fabulous holiday season and are working on setting your goals for 2018! It’s gonna be a great year I just know it! •

3.1 miles on this Monday. I always do a long run on Sunday, but missed yesterday because I was a cleaning FIEND and went crazy scrubbing grout and making it all sparkling. I was way too tired afterwards to run. But hey 4 hours of cleaning is still exercise right?? Hope so. Cuz that’s all I did on my long run day! I wanted to make sure I kinda made up for it by running tonight’s 5k at my current top speed, and to push myself a tiny bit farther than I did last time before needing a walk break....and I did it! I felt strong during it and feel great that I did that! I’ll get my long run in next Sunday...but until then I’ll just focus on speed and strength! At least I got to try out some new socks!! 😂💁🏼‍♀️

While I’m working on what 2018 will look like for me in terms of races, one thing I do know is that I have the @hotchocolate15k 5K coming up in January that I want to use to motivate me. I wrote a 4-week 5K training program to keep me accountable - 3 days/week of running (one speed workout, one tempo run and one longer, steady state run). Do you have plantar fasciitis, shine splints, tight ankles, do a lot of running, jumping, can’t squat all the way down etc. ? Have you noticed how your feet are when you sleep? Your feet end up in a plantar flexión position (toes pointed) which makes your calves even tighter. It’s a horrible cycle ..go to bed with tight ankles and wake up with the same or potentially tighter ankles. Try this out next time massage your calves before you go to bed to set yourself up for success or wear plantar fasciitis socks to keep your feet in a dorsiflexion position or do both. Didn’t get much #running done as the place is still so icy. So apart from this, it’s mainly 30 degree gradient uphill at a bit of a march,and that’s 50% of the route. I love training on the treadmill. I’ve learned to use the treadmill as a tool to help increase my speed. For now the treadmill is great because I have my little one at home.
