Portrait 29/77 - portrait of my mother in oil paint. Underpainting with acrylic paint and several transparent layers of oil paint on top of that. A way of painting that works for me, learned from a great master, Cornelis le Mair, during several of his masterclasses.
Swipe to see the whole portrait and the (start of the) underpainting.

I like working with drawing ink, love the transparancy you also have with watercolor and the possibility to use a pen for darker outlines.

Portrait 10/77 - quick self portrait with pencil. Sometimes it's easier to draw or paint someone else rather than yourself. But it can be interesting in many ways to take a good look at yourself every now and then.

Portrait 8/77 - triple kids portrait with oil paint. I had so much fun painting those sweet smiling faces. First I used acrylic paint to make the underpainting for the right light and shadow tones. And then a fast drying oil paint for the top layers (many thin transparent layers). Swipe to see the underpainting.

Portrait 7/77 - quick pencil portrait on watercolor paper. Sometimes it's just fun to use an ordinary pencil with a hotel logo and do a quick sketch of someone you see in a newspaper or magazine. Just because they have an interesting face, you don't have anything better to do and it doesn't have to become a masterpiece.

Portrait 2/77 - Pen and ink drawing of my little niece. I like doing portraits in one tone, especially this sepia color. It's nice to play with the light and not to fill in all the blanks.
Working with ink, combining watercoloring (brushes) with outlines (pen) is one of my favorite techniques.

I love painting eyes and faces. Each portrait inspires me to try out new styles and different techniques. I'm starting a 77 days project just for fun and to see what new things I can learn. One portrait a day โœ๏ธ
