Today on the blog, FilmFed community member, @barneyonmovies, reviews 'Justice League'.
As a rather weary Bruce Wayne puts it at one point during 'Justice League (2017),' - the latest movie from the DC Extended Universe and their attempt at an Avengers-style team-up - we certainly live in "the age of heroes," and if there was ever any doubt about that before, there certainly isn't now as 2017 has seen over six superhero movies all begging the question of whether the way to keep us awake is to make these films super-serious, or just a bit of fun.
Ask the successful folks over at Marvel and they're going for the latter option - injecting their projects with more jokes and retro colors than your average red dwarf episode - but look to the struggling DCEU and their approach is very different, with the poorly received 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016),' and 'Man of Steel (2013),' from Zack Snyder both drenched in equally copious amounts of superficial darkness.
But, with Snyder's 'Justice League (2017),' comes a chance to change course by injecting more humor and fun into the experience as the heroes we've been introduced to (Ben Affleck's Batman and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman) unite with some new faces (Ezra Miller's 'The Flash,' Ray Fisher's 'Cyborg,' and Jason Momoa's 'Aquaman,') to save the world from the evil god Steppenwolf. You know the drill by this point, but the question now is...

Hope all my fellow Americans had a happy thanksgiving & ate a lot. Okay, let's do this
Justice league is the latest & probs least successful DECU film to date that's about the start of one of the coolest super hero teams ever. (Probs beats avengers but I'm not staring a debate). This story mainly follows our guy Bruce as he assembles this team to take down our villain Steppenwolf. Yepp you heard me right, Darkseid is NOWHERE in this movie.
Okay let me start off with the positives. The special effects have improved dramatically since Wonder Woman. One of my main issues with that movies is that the effects looked half done but he they weren't. The first time Diana used her lasso in this movie is was realistic. I believed it. Good job DCEU! I'll be honest it did take me a while to adjust to Cyborg cause he is 80% CGI but by the final act of the film I did adjust. But as the story continues & tech itself advances I don't think this will be a big problem (cause my technical issues from WW were fixed here).
The actors are all great here too! I love Ben Afflecks Batman. I HOPE he doesn't quit on us cause that would suck (& is literally my pet peeve). Gal Gadot was literally born to play Wonder Woman & she's back at the end BvS diana not the native one we saw in WW. I'm a fan of all the new guys but the one that stands out to me is Ray Fisher who plays Cyborg cause he rocks. This Cyborg is not the funny guy that we know & love. He's 1 of 3 humans in this group & we can really feel his tragedy & his quest to figure out what to do now with this body. Barry Allen has always been a favorite of mine & I love Erza Miller in it & its good comedic elements that this film needed.
Okay the negatives, I honestly thought this film was way too short. Yes, I know the plot is very very simple which allows a commercial audience to follow it (RIP marvels commercial audience when infinity war comes out) but everything came together way too quickly. Like there wasn't really any conflict. Just like 2 scenes & then a battle some diplegie & its the final act of the film already & the films over. I find it stupid that Warner Brothers put a limit & Whedon literally made it
