Studies have shown Americans probably gain about a pound during the winter holiday season-but this extra weight accumulates through the years and may be a major contributor to obesity later in life. This finding runs contrary to the popular belief that most people gain from five to ten pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. But that extra pound lingers. Researchers found that people don’t tend to shed that winter weight by the next year. After a few sugary Christmas seasons (plus the year’s other indulgent holidays, birthdays and anniversaries), those pounds add up. In a recent study, it was found that even if a person in today’s age exercised and ate the same amount as a person in 1988, they’d still be heavier. The researchers don’t know exactly why yet, but suspect that several factors—including pesticides, pollutants, medications, erratic eating schedules and changes in the gut microbiome—may somehow be altering human metabolism. Some ways to keep it off: Pick your very favorite dessert, but eat only the amount that it will take for you to be satisfied.
Try your hand at mindful eating. Some evidence suggests that focusing on how your body feels, through a short body scan meditation, can help you tune in to how hungry you really are and adjust your sweet-eating.
Maintain a consistent aerobic exercise routine. It may not make you lose weight, but it may help offset some of the inflammation and blood sugar spikes that accompany overeating.

#sweatyselfie#2 from last nights workout. Yesterday was pretty fucking crazy. Not only did I work a full day, & take Argo on a 45 min walk(with some training incorporated of course). I Also went back out to the gym and did an hour session. How many of you have the energy to do all that and then stay up past midnight looking into not only proper workout and recovery technique(I’m learning) and business and self-development tools? A few months ago I’d barely even have enough energy and stamina to even take my dog on a decent walk after a full work day. After all of that when I fell asleep I slept great. Woke up and am back at it again. I’m a little sore today but not as much as I thought I’d be. Let’s see how hard I can push myself this evening. I’ve got goals and now I’ve finally got the energy and my not so secret weapon to help me have the energy to tackle those goals head on. 😕To a lot of people I’ve probably always appeared “healthy” but for most of my life I struggled with my nutrition.
📓And that’s something to note:
Just because someone appears to be lean does not mean they’re “healthy”.
It also doesn’t mean they know anything about nutrition.
Here’s a look at my diet a few years ago:
🌭Lunch: Two microwave corn dogs, mound of French fries, and a shit load of ketchup.
🍕Dinner: Half a Digiorno pizza.
That sound healthy to you?
I may have been lean but I was struggling!
😪 I️ was dragging ass every day, couldn’t focus, always craving food, wasn’t productive, and most importantly, I wasn’t happy. Hard to be happy when you are tired, irritable and HUNGRY.
🤠What I’ve learned, when it comes to nutrition, is that it’s not about how you look, it’s about how you FEEL.
📚Reading this book will give you the tools to finally FEEL good with food.
