Wee bit of Wigle Whiskey in the house.

I always love checking out all of their latest experiments and this lineup looks pretty spectacular. In addition to their standard Pennsylvania bourbon-one of the better bourbons you'll find outside of Kentucky-I'll be exploring

Wapsie Valley bourbon: Made with local PA corn which has a higher protein content, resulting in a more savory spirit.

Malty Baere: Malt whisky fermented with Wild Angels yeast provided by Draai Laag Brewing. Aged for 2.5 years in toasted casks.

Afterglow: Whiskey with roasted ginger, lightly sweetened.

MaltMalt: Malt whisky made from four types of malt aged in used barrels for 22 months. Inspired by Spoonwood Brewing's Smoke and Oats.

Quaker Strength: Oat malt whiskey also featuring dark roasted malted barley. Part of the experimental Whims lineup.

Pommeau: A French style spirit made from aged apple brandy and raw apple must. Aged in French oak for 2 years.

That's a mouthful. Better wash it down with a fresh pour. Which should I start with? Cheers!

I'm a day late for #worldwhiskyday but let's be real, I celebrate that most days. Plus this dram is good enough to make that wait worthwhile.

This limited edition release celebrates 50 years on the job for Four Roses' senior brand ambassador Al Young, and for an occasion that big they made a helluva whiskey.

Luscious and sweet, loaded with creamy vanilla, but with enough spice, fruits and backbone to give it complexity and layers. It features four of the brand's 10 mashbills including a small component of 23 year old juice but is otherwise between 12-15 years.

10,000 bottles at $150 and about 54% abv, coming your way in June.

The good ol' boys down at San Antonio's Ranger Creek have done a side by side release and barrel experiment for their .36 Texas Bourbon.

The large bottle was aged for two years in full size barrels, and the small bottle was aged for about 11 months in smaller casks. The result? A unique way to measure oak influence based on its exposure ratio to the juice and time spent within.

Plus- another pair of #whiskysiblings. I continue to demand that my booze come in twos.

The Galliano #boozemail game is strong. And just in time for this sudden 90 degree outburst in DC.

The brand has just launched its Galliano L'Aperitivo expression in the U.S.

As opposed to its traditional golden hue, this Italian bitter liqueur is red, and includes 50 ingredients predominantly sourced from its local region of northwest Italy. It's bottled at 24% ABV.

Suggested serving is with that Prosecco right there for a Galliano Frizzante, or used as a sub in any number of negroni or spritz riffs. I'll have to try that out later!

A cocktail courtesy of some #boozemail from the folks at @unclevals gin. This gin is very flavorful and very different from gins I usually use in cocktails so I wanted to find a drink that would have this gin's complexity on full display. Found this recipe with bitters and velvet falernum and it was a bit like a tiki martini! 🗿🗿🗿
.
The interesting thing about Uncle Val’s is that it's a small-batch botanical gin inspired by Zio Valerio’s love of gardening and native Tuscan cuisine. The flavors in this gin were chosen because they are Uncle Val's favorite cooking ingredients. It's very smooth and good for gin-forward drinks!
.
🌱 Sepratist Gimlet 🌱
🔸2 Parts @unclevals Gin
🔸1/2 Part Velvet Falernum
🔸Dash lavender bitters
🔸Sage for garnish
.
Add all ingredients into a glass with ice. Stir and serve in a coupe glass.

Packing for #cincodemayo weekend like...
What have we here? It's the new Pierre Ferrand cognac, aged first in cognac casks (obvs) and then a 2nd aging in ex-Banyuls (sweet, fortified wine) casks.

#cognac #spirits #france #luxury #brandy #wine #grapes #boozemail
Two new takes on old bourbons from Wild Turkey, Bond & Lillard and Old Ripy.

Part of The Whiskey Barons Collection, each is a reboot of a pre-Prohibition Kentucky bourbon, with a real brand name dating to the 1800s.

Bond & Lillard is a charcoal filtered 7 year old Kentucky straight bourbon. Old Ripy incorporates 8 year and 12 year stock with younger whiskeys as well.

I'm sticking by my booze in twos rule. As I've said, I don't like my bottles to be lonely folks.

Two from Pierre Ferrand here with the one on the left a brand spanking new release, Reserve Double Cask.

The cognac is aged traditionally for 7-10 years and is then blended with a portion of 20 year old cognac, all before before being moved to Banyuls casks for a final year. Banyuls is a fortified wine from southern France.

The result is said to be big on rancio and a call back to the styles of cognac from the early 1800s. 42.3% ABV, $79.99.

I'm really excited to share my latest #boozemail, a gift from @lostspiritsdistillery. You might remember me posting about the Polynesian-inspired rum; this is their navy style rum. The two rums are two sides to the same coin: both are high-proof, and very dark, with warm molasses and spice notes. But while the Polynesian is bursting with yellow fruit notes, especially pineapple, the navy style is full of honey and dark fruit and chocolate notes. Where the Polynesian is crackling with bright fruit, the navy is languid and luxuriant.
🍸
Both of these rums are the product of Lost Spirits' scientific approach to distilling. They start each rum by thinking about the flavors they want, at the molecular level, and then work backwards through the distillation and aging process to produce those exact components. So while the Polynesian is full of ethyl butyrate, an ester that smells of--you guessed it--pineapple, the navy is full of phenol ethyl butyrate, which creates floral, honey notes.
🍸
I had a chance to talk to Bryan Davis of Lost Spirits (which is a fun, interesting experience, given that he's an amusement park ride engineer-turned self-taught mad scientist distilled). I really love what he's doing and strongly believe that what he's doing--like his fast aging--can really democratize the spirits world. But I worried that his methods were going to take over the industry, offering distillers such precise control and enabling such innovation that craft and rustic distilling would disappear. But Bryan views what he's doing as akin to molecular gastronomy: there's room in the world for high-end avant garde cuisine AND traditional, farm-to-table cooking. What there would be less room for are mass producers cranking out bland products that never change. I'm ok with that.

With me not making any cocktails these days, my poor husband has been left to fend for himself. Which basically means nothing more complicated than a Scotch on the rocks. But @shakerandspoon came to his rescue with their Kiss Me, I'm Whiskey box! He whipped up two fabulous Irish Whiskey cocktails with @grandten South Boston Irish Whiskey and the syrups and ingredients they sent. Not only was it really fun, but I think he gained some cocktail-making confidence! Check out the blog today for the recipes and to read all about it (link in profile).

New, limited edition Basil Hayden's rye.

Some of the whisky included is rebarreled after 4 years, going on to age an additional 7 years in new charred oak quarter casks. That's a small component of the juice which ends up in the bottle but adds a ton of big flavor.

Like its bourbon brother it's bottled at 80 proof.

My friends @ourlosangeles were kind enough to send me a bottle of their vodka to try. They are part of the @ourvodka family. Fascinating story about their vodka. They wanted to create a global vodka but with local partners in cities around the world. They all use a global recipe but by using locally-sourced ingredients it gives each vodka its own unique flavor.
Check out their entire story at their web site.
・
I was thinking what should I make with their vodka when I recently saw posts by my friends @cocktailchap & @servedbysoberon making Espresso Martini. So that's what I decided to make. Great write up on the history of this drink on @servedbysoberon account. Do yourself a favor and check out both of their accounts. Fabulous recipes there.

¾ oz @clearcreekdistillery Pear Liqueur
¾ oz Dry Vermouth
¾ oz Lemon Juice
½ Barspoon of Simple Syrup
1 Egg White
3-5 Coin Sized Pieces of Fresh Ginger
.
Add the ginger pieces and simple syrup to a mixing glass and muddle together well. Add the rest of the ingredients and shake without ice. Dry shake very well. Add ice then shake till the drink cools. Double strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with some candied ginger if you're feeling crazy. Serve.

Booze mail! #BoozeMail The kind folks over at @wigglybridgedistillery were nice enough to send me a bottle of their dry gin. It's white whiskey based with a great floral flavor, but I also got some nice spicy notes from it as well. So because of that, I decided to go with a fresh ginger route. The amount of ginger you put in depends on how spicy you like your drinks. I tend to LOVE fresh ginger so I put quite a few slices in there. Ginger on the back end. Pear notes. Vermouth to round everything out. Cheers!

Serve. . Cheers!
Ya, I know it's Saturday, but how pretty is this bottle of Sunday Gin I received from @youandyourssd ?? Now which gin cocktail to make?!?

Michter's, Michter's on the wall... Two beauts here, with their 10 year old bourbon and 10 year old rye.

And why choose between a couple of great things if you don't have to? Let's crack em both.

As a great Cubs player once said- "Let's drink two!" (or something like that...)

Tuesday night tipple: The new Hochstadter's Family Reserve, a 16 year old 100% rye sourced from Alberta.

Cask strength at 123.8 proof this is a fiery behemoth of a dram for lovers of big, bold ryes. I recommend icing her down after an initial try.

Found a different shot so I didn't copy @gustatoryonline within an hour.

New from Johnnie Walker: Blenders Batch Triple Grain American Oak. It's a 10 year old blend showcasing three grain whiskies, one each wheat, corn, and barley, balanced by several malts, including Mortlach and Cardhu.

The grain profile really shows on the palate with a creamy sweetness, but to me the citrus zest and spice are the dominant notes. And as such it should definitely play nice in cocktails, too.

Received this amazing present from @elguapobitters: a box of incredible bitters and flavourings. Can't wait to try them all out...
My friends @stonecutterspirits @hollywdvixen sent me their spirits to try!
Thank you so much for this generous gift.
・
First is their Single Barrel Gin. From their website, "We bottle Single Barrel Gin at the precise moment when you can taste a balance of juniper, cardamon, orange peel, caramel and oak." After reading that description who wouldn't want to taste it.
The aroma has a very herbal scent but there's also a sweet vanilla note as well.
The taste is soft and smooth. You get the juniper but also some spice and bitter citrus finish.
・
Next is their Heritage Cask Whiskey. From their website, "Distilled like a bourbon, aged like an Irish whiskey, and finished like a Scotch." Wow! It also undergoes a custom triple barrel aging process. They age it in bourbon barrels for at least 4 years, then they finish it in Cabernet barrels.
The aroma has a very fruity scent. Most likely from the Cabernet barreling.
The taste has a spiciness from the rye with a dry fruity finish.
・
Both of these were fabulous and I can't wait to try them in cocktails.
Thank you once again and I can't wait to see what you come out with next.

Heven't tried the recipe yet but we are sure that it's on par with the awesome photo and amazing description by @liquorary! Good job there pal👍🍸Plus: #boozemail always rocks!
.
I was pleasantly surprised with some #boozemail from @bluenectartequila, a bottle of their silver tequila. It's a very mellow, smooth #tequila, with clean notes of earthy, vegetal #agave and a robust, unctuous mouthfeel. And, very cool, it looks like it's a single-estate tequila; all of their agave is from fields adjacent to the distillery. So, I had to throw it into my favorite tequila combo:
🍸
2 oz Blue Nectar silver tequila
1 oz pineapple
3/4 oz @royalroseme ginger-lime syrup
1/2 oz sweet vermouth
2 dashes Angostura bitters
🍸
Shaken, garnished with a candied cherry.
🍸
This is such a funky, spicy, fruity combination. Lots of botanical and spice notes bouncing off the tequila's earthiness.

Here's a Sea-salted Blueberry Sour. No reason, I just wanted to make something with @isleofwightdistillery's really tasty Rock Sea Vodka again
----------------------->
10 blueberries
2 shots @isleofwightdistillery Rock Sea Vodka
3/4 shot lemon juice
1/2 shot sugar syrup
1 egg white
------------------------
Muddle the blueberries in the sugar syrup and then add the vodka, lemon juice and egg white. Dry-shake for 20 seconds, then add ice and shake again. Then fine strain into a martini glass and garnish with more blueberries.

1/2 shot maraschino liqueur

#hubbiepost So, confession time friends. I purchased a bottle of Bonal last night and was finally able to make this next cocktail. It was my last cocktail of the night...
.
Sharpie Mustache
✅ .75oz Dry Gin @bombaysapphireus
✅ .75oz #RittenhouseRye
✅ .75oz #Bonal
✅ .75oz @meletti_official Amaro
✅ 1 Dash Tiki Bitters (@elguapobitters Polynesian Kiss Bitters)
.
Method: Stir with ice; strain over #clearice into a rocks glass.
Garnish Option: Expressed Orange Peel
.
On to the confession bit. After finishing this cocktail last night, I dreamt I met Sother Teague (@creativedrunk) randomly at a Minneapolis cocktail bar and we partied the night away together. Coincidence? I think not. 😆
.
Moral of the story: Feel free to enjoy this cocktail (and several of them, as they are delicious); maybe just finish off the night with a different one. 😉
.
As I'm shooking this photo, Mo's repeating in the background, "I mustache you a question; but I'm shaving it for later..." in his best Sean Connery voice. 🙄😂
.
Cheers Friends!

Batavia Arrack has long been a favorite spirit and flavor of mine so when I got the chance to try out the aged Batavia Arrack by @bythedutch I jumped at the opportunity. In this excellent drink by @sahildmehta a generous measurement of Arrack is mixed with Citron Sauvage a grapefruit liqueur from Bittermens, some spiced grenadine syrup and topped off with cava!
Age of Exploration by @sahildmehta
.
1.5 oz @bythedutch Batavia Arrack
0.5 oz @bittermens Citron Sauvage
0.5 oz Spiced Grenadine Syrup*
0.25 oz Lemon Juice
Top up with Cava * A regular grenadine syrup is dressed up by adding 1 oz of Kummel, and 2 oz of black pepper tincture to a batch of grenadine syrup.

Thank you @bythedutch 🙏🏻, I love the flavor of your Batavia Arrack. I conducted my own little blind tasting with three different Batavia Arrack and I consistently picked @bythedutch Batavia Arrack as the one I preferred

My friends @fabriziaspirits were kind enough to send me their amazing products.
They have a Limoncello, Blood Orange, and a Limoncello Cream.
The Limoncello is spot on. The flavor is perfect.
The aroma from the Blood Orange is fantastic. The taste has a sweetness from the Blood Orange. I could just drink this by itself.
The Limoncello Cream is so yummy! You get all the flavor from the Limoncello with this creamy goodness added to it. I have something special planned for this.
・
I decided to make a riff on the Monkey Gland using the Blood Orange. The hardest part was deciding what to call this. Bloody Monkey? Monkey's Blood? Bloody Gland?
Somehow those names just didn't seem appropriate. Since people (my family) always say I'm a smart ass I decided to call this one
・
Cheeky Monkey
・
2 oz Gin
3/4 oz Fabrizia Blood Orange Liqueur
1/2 oz Liber & Co. Real Grenadine
Rinse of St. George Absinthe
Shake/Strain/Up
・
Thank you again to @fabriziaspirits for the wonderful product!
And to see other fabulous recipes using their products check out what my friends made which is tremendously better than mine.

A few weeks ago I won the Messina Bitters giveaway and, oh em gee! What a wonderful surprise! First of all, their packaging. As some of you know, I'm a designer, and a total sucker for packaging and attention to detail. (If you're curious, take a look at the other pictures in the slide.) Second, and most importantly: the Bitters! Cardamom! Grapefruit! Aromatic (can't have enough aromatic Bitters!)! All made with organic ingredients and cane alcohol. I can't wait to play with all of them, but for now, here's my experiment with cardamom. Please check out @messinabitters account and take a look at all their fun products! 'Cardayum'
1.75 oz Barr Hill Tom Cat Gin
.75 oz lemon juice
.75 oz brown sugar, persimmon, cardamom, lemon zest peel shrub (I know, that's a mouth full)
5 drops Messina "the virgin" cardamom Bitters
Splash of seltzer

Shake all ingredients (except seltzer) with ice. Strain into ice filled rocks glass, top with seltzer.

Finally diving into the 2017 edition of @drinkhighwest's Bourye, sporting a jackalope on the label in homage to its own hybrid character as a blend of straight rye and straight bourbon.

The rye falls in at 95% rye and 5% malted barley and the bourbon is 75% corn 21% rye and 4% malted barley. The juice is between 10 and 14 years old and it's all bottled up at 46% ABV.

It's big and rich, especially on the nose, also offering an array of baking spices and everything from baked apples to cedar wood. Full review coming soon on @drinkdistiller.

I thought the smokiness from Mezcal would work perfectly with these syrups.

I'm super excited to share my latest #boozemail, this one from Edgar of @oldspiritsco. The Old Spirits Co. sources vintage spirits of every style and brand for bars, clubs, and collectors. His portfolio is drool-worthy; his oldest spirit is a 1795 cognac.
🥃
So now I've got this vintage Vat 69 blended Scotch, bottled originally for export to Italy, to play with. It's very peaty for a blend and very smooth. Expect to see some recipes soon.

There's just something about February that makes me want to make tiki mugs in pottery and drink rum cocktails. Luckily this recent wave of wishful thinking coincided with the launch of @diplomaticorum's new white sipping rum that they sent as some #boozemail to try. Naturally looked for a recipe in the @smugglerscovesf to give the rum a taste test. :)

🍹Merciless Virgin🍹
🔸1 1⁄2	oz Planas Sipping Rum from @diplomaticorum
🔸1⁄2	oz Cherry Heering

🔸1⁄2	oz	Seltzer water

The latest from Glenmorangie, Bacalta, the 8th in their private edition series. You've probably already seen this on about 75 other whisky IG accounts this week, but hey I deserve my chance too.

Bacalta is Gaelic for 'baked' and signifies the finishing process for the whisky which occurred in bespoke, sun baked casks which had held Malmsey Madeira. Glenmo commissioned the casks specifically for this project.

So here's a first attempt at making a cocktail with @angelstearsvodka's new limited edition Pink Pepper And Rose Petal Vodka. With its botanical flavours, it made sense to try it as a gin substitute in this V&T, with added grapefruit juice to complement the floral notes. It worked really well - this was a lovely light, refreshing - but still punchy - drink perfect for early spring. ------------------------->
2 shots Pink Pepper And Rose Petal @angelstearsvodka
2 shots grapefruit juice
1/4 shot sugar syrup
Tonic
-------------------------
Pour all ingredients in an ice-filled highball glass and then stir. Garnish with grapefruit peel.

Well, I know what I'm doing this weekend. Thanks @brooklynbrewshop! Now which one should I make first? #boozemail

It's cold out. Time to warm up with some Cognac.

Good thing I've really been enjoying checking out some of the smaller Cognac houses over the past few months. Two from the Park lineup here, their Borderies single vineyard and their Carte Blanche VS. Does the body good!

Nothing better than some #boozemail from my friends at @amaroangeleno after a long vacation!
📫
Their amaro is F A N T A S T I C - It tastes delicate and citrus-vermouthey at first, but then finishes clean with the classic amaro bitter bite. Plus the bottle artwork is beautiful! Going to have to schedule a trip to CA to pick up some more of this!

I made a simple martini (2:5) to start, as the flavor is really balanced and I wanted it to shine through!
