YES! (If they want to of course)😂 So many women don’t lift weights because they’ve been told it’ll make them bulky. Child please, if picking up a dumbbell made you bulky I would have started years ago 😂⠀

Weight training is great for all the usual reasons - burns calories, improves bone density, increases strength, boosts metabolism, helps you look better nekkid etc but there’s one benefit often overlooked - confidence.⠀

My confidence skyrocketed once I started lifting. You get a great sense of achievement and accomplishment seeing your strength improve - and no one should be discouraged from not experiencing that!

Sunday’s always been a reflection day for me. A week over and another just starting. I usually have my weekly check in and asses my progress.⠀
-⠀
If things aren’t going your way it’s tempting to give up. You worked hard all week and didn’t see results, it happens, but don’t give up.⠀
-⠀
Adapt your strategy. Change your plan. You want to lose 5kg and this week didn’t go as planned - that doesn’t mean you suddenly don’t care about losing weight. If you’re driving to work and your car breaks down, you don’t quit your job!⠀
-⠀
The only way you can fail is if you stop trying. So rather than stop, why not switch. Try new cardio, maybe try more fats. There are so many different ways of taking your journey, explore them!

If you’ve been out sick or injured (like me) before you know how eager you feel to get back training! You can’t just dive in though, so check these tips to make sure you’re back to your best!⠀
-⠀
⏱It takes time - however long you’ve been out is a good window for how long it’ll take to get back on form. Accept that it takes time.⠀
-⠀
🔽Deload - your body isn’t as strong as it was before you needed the break. You won’t be able to jump back in with the same weight or intensity. I start back with a bar and add weight until I feel challenged. That’s the point I start from again.⠀
-⠀
⛔️Go slow - listen to your body and take it easy. You’ll be tempted to train as hard and as often as you can but that might not work. If you need an extra rest day or longer rest periods - take them!⠀
-⠀
👨🏼‍⚕️Be patient - don’t get frustrated and understand it’s a process. Enjoy being back training!

I focus on the day to day. Getting y workouts in, eating whole, nutritious foods, staying within my macro targets. If I want a beer, or chocolate, or anything else then I can work it into my plan because 95% of the time - I’m on track.⠀

Create habits, make your healthy lifestyle automatic. Working out and eating good foods will become automatic, and you’ll have space to be flexible and enjoy the foods you like - all while moving towards your goals. It’s a no brainer!

Both squat variations work the legs. They are great movements for building strength and speed - but they put emphasis on different areas of the leg. Neither type of squat is better than the other, which is why you should aim to include both in your training!

We all want a quick fix so we buy into the notion that cayenne pepper seasoning will help us lose a stone. If we had a food with some magic ingredient that caused your body to burn fat we wouldn’t be facing an obesity crisis.⠀

You can however eat foods to help you lose weight. Foods high in fibre, high in protein and that provide a lot of volume for fewer calories are the “trick”. Cardio, the part of training we all love to hate! Always seems to be 2 camps when it comes to cardio, LISS or HIIT. And for beginners it can be difficult to know what’s the deal.⠀
-⠀
🚶🏼LISS or Low Intensity Steady State cardio is the type of cardio you can do anytime anywhere. Go out for a walk, a cycle or a jog. It’s a great way to relieve stress, requires no experience and it helps recovery. LISS is good for overall health but the benefits are only enjoyed while performing the exercise. ⠀

🏃🏼HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training is exactly how it sounds. Intervals of high intensity work and low intensity rest repeated. Think sprinting up a hill and walking back down. Then repeat for say 10 intervals. HIIT is a very efficient workout as it can be done in as little as 10 minutes. It’s great for improving strength and endurance and it’s effects can be felt in the body for up to 48 hrs afterwards. ⠀

🤷🏼‍♂️So which do you do? Well both! As a beginner, adopt the LISS format for your cardio. As you progress and want to challenge yourself more, introduce HIIT. I like to do 20 mins LISS after my weight training and then HIIT on my non weight training days. But mix it up and see what works for you!
