"Hey, dad. I know you're upset, but look, here's the thing. It's just going to give me a chance to get better.”
That’s what my son Cooper said to me in November 2016 when he tore his ACL and MCL playing his third game of varsity basketball.
I was so upset. I was just devastated for him. I was trying to find the strength to just basically shore my son up and trying to figure out what I was going to say to him.
But before I even got the chance, that's what he said to me. "It's just going to give me a chance to get better.”
All three of my boys have always been resilient growing up. I think in a special forces family, with team sergeants, and military guys, MCO's, in the house all the time, that they learn at a very young age about resilience, and the importance of mindset, and how important that is to achieve your goals.
But what is it that separates your goals from reality? What separates them from a resolution that you give up on in 96 hours?
Commitment. It's commitment. It's the same thing that Cooper showed when he said to me, "Dad, it's okay. It's just going to give me time to get better." I knew in that moment right there, Cooper was committed to his dream of playing basketball, and a torn ACL, months of recovery and rehab, were not going to get in the way of that dream. He had already made up his mind on commitment.
It was a real teaching point for me, as a grown man, to reevaluate how I see commitment. I love it when things happen like that in life, especially when my children are the teachers.
Energy is high, but it's easier when you do what you love. Don't get me wrong, you ARE going to have tough days. It's up to you on how you respond to it. I could give you a list of things going wrong personally right now, but I know that dwelling on it won't do any good. I keep my head up, energy up, and stay positive. My mindset and energy is on another level.
👊🏼 I like to have goals, whether that be health goals, physique goals, or personal growth goals. I can’t just “live for the weekend” and coast through life. I want to always be learning and evolving into a better person. Let’s all make this week count! Happy Monday!!
Getting closer to my goals. Nutrition is everything. People think exercising cures it all but you truly can’t outwork a bad diet. All my life I have worked out but I never had these results because I didn’t match my gym efforts with my nutrition. When I started Herbalife I was able to put it all together because it was so easy and so so maintainable that 20 months later I am still going strong and getting better and better results daily. It’s amazing that I use the same products but just tweak the consumption here and there and voila new results. At 46.5 years of age, I am finally seeing myself in a mirror and admiring my efforts. Still far from where I wanna be but confident I will get there #BeastMode#TeamNoExcuses#TeamRelentless#GoingForIt#Focus#Commitment#Health#Nutrition#WomenWhoLift#WomenWithMuscles#FitInMyForties#FitMom#HerbalifeStrong#HerbalifeFueled 🍃💪🏻
WAKE UP SLOW 💤
This past week I've been focusing on “Presence” and I quickly became aware of how often I’m NOT PRESENT. And I realized a huge factor to this busy brain of mine was the way I begin most of my days.
Sometimes I notice first thing in my morning my entrepreneurial brain is already in motion. I’m checking my emails and social media pages. Thinking about what I I need to be doing to make my vision come to life. Basically having screen stimulation first thing in the morning, before grounding myself into my day.
I’m all about hard work, but I know high productivity comes from a high level of well being. So a new commitment I made to myself this week is to wake up slow! And I must say this morning was the best I’ve had in a while. I took an hour and a half of solo time to take care of me. The most important business there is!
I took a good old Mind Dump-I wrote down any thoughts, worries, or ideas on paper first thing and I felt lighter immediately. I completed my Meditation for 40 Days - 10 minutes of pure stillness felt like a luxury today. Not only was it was best meditation I’ve experienced all week for relaxation, but from that open space I had some pretty amazing ideas come to me. I slipped a hot tea and enjoyed some kitty Cuddles with Booka. Then cooked a healthy breakfast for me and my love and took my vitamins + supplements I’ve been forgetting to take.
And only then did give myself permission to begin checking things off the TO DO list and putting on my work hat. What is possible from this new morning routine?...
More joy, more energy, and ton more presence! 💯
Alright this gave me the push I needed to make the determination I need to develop a regular gym habit starting tonight. I’m the most anxious person I know so if all I need to do is move my body more often to fix the problem, I’m gonna do it!!! #resolve#commitment#justdoit#helpyourself#motivation#sciencebased ..............#Repost @markhymanmd with @get_repost
Exercise improves memory, learning, and concentration; vigorous exercise is a better antidepressant than Prozac. Exercise creates brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDMF), which is basically miracle grow for your brain. When you exercise, your brain becomes more elastic. Exercise also helps to improve your mood, boost your energy, and reduce overall stress in your body and mind. Your brain on exercise simply performs so much better. Human nature dictates that we are more likely to exercise if we’ve made it easy for ourselves. We all know how easily pushing exercise to the back burner and subsequently neglecting it can become. Doing your daily exercise first thing in the morning jump-starts your metabolism and sets your day on the right course.
