“New Phone, Who Dis?” x Teddy J. Vanity. Digital design. 2017.
Just to be clear, everything on here was digitally drawn except for the little emojis.
This one’s already been out for a minute, but I wanted to share it on here to continue birthday week celebration for the good homie and to also start introducing some cover art I’d done.
This is a track released last October by Teddy J. Vanity that I got to do the art for and decided to do a full lyric book after seeing some other artists I admire do the same. Lot of fun mostly because I got to draw little cartoon versions of two of my closest friends, so it made it all the more special.
The song itself was fun to create and a great way to speak my mind even if people could barely catch everything stayed in the double time flow used. Big reason I wanted to do the lyric pages, so people could dissect the lyrics should they want to.
Altar // First proper render with Blender! So many requests to post this so here you go! Since joining Instagram I have seen some super dope 3D artist and wanted to try it myself too. Made some minor adjustments to the one I posted in my story. Still pretty basic but it was so much fun to create! More stuff coming soon! 🙌❤️
Klaus Nomi - Simple Man (1982)
Highlights: After The Fall; Falling in love again; Ding Dong(but the whole album is a highlight, really)
The Negus of New Wave, Klaus Nomi is probably one of the most influential figures of the 80's. His legacy lives on to this day, in music, fashion and television alike. Simple Man is a true ode to the androgynous counterculture that was contaminating both the latter stages of punk and the forthcoming era of New Wave. Ding Dong, an anthem of the time, demonstrates crude irony and visionary imagination, After the Fall is a historic track, and the creative uses of synth, drum machine and saxophone really elevate the major aspects of this album. But really, the protagonist is Nomi's outstanding voice (a clear, opera voice) and his personality, which embedded him among the greats of the underground. I took some more time for this review because this year is the 35th anniversary of Klaus' death. He died at 39 of Aids, alone and abandoned, in a time when Aids was mostly known as "gay cancer". Gone, but not forgotten.
