Repost from @kirstengillibrand: With every word and every action, Barbara Jordan redefined the word “courageous.” Day in and day out, serving in a state still marred by segregation and in a Congress still hostile to women, she fought for every voice to be heard – challenging us all to keep believing in and working for a future where everyone can claim a seat at the table. Now it’s on us to keep up the fight by holding our leaders accountable, marching, supporting a campaign we believe in or even running for office. How do you fight for that future? Let me know in the comments – I’d love to hear your story.
Politicians often get asked what’s the greatest threat to the United States. Over 90% of their answers is terrorism, North Korea, or Russia. But, in reality, there is a much greater security threat to the US: China. China, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, is attempting to become the second global superpower in the world. Already there influence can be seen not only in Asian affairs, but also in Africa and South America where Chinese Banks have gained significant influence and power. Militarily China is much lesser than the US, but economically there is room for contention. Already China is set to surpass the US in real GDP by 2030. The size of China is also a source of concern. Currently, the vast majority of Chinese citizens are impoverished and uneducated compared to the United States, but if China were able to harness the labor capability of their 1.5 billion citizens, then that would be something truly devastating to the United States. Just as Great Britain was surpassed by the United States after WWII, China could surpass the United States. But, why is this a problem? Because China is not Democratic. The Chinese government regularly suppresses their citizens and is frequently very blasé about human rights. If a country like China were to gain more influence, countries around the world would take their example instead of the United States, just as the Soviet Union’s influence causes neighboring countries to convert to Communism. But how can we stop China from surpassing us? The answer: We need to become more involved in international affairs. We can not embrace an isolationist policy of government. We have to be leaders, not passive bystanders. That is why we need to enact policies such as TPP that would increase our global influence and standing. This policy needs to be enacted, and it needs to be enacted now.
President Trump apparently called Haiti and African Nations “Shit-holes” during a White House meeting. Does this make the President Racist? Come check out what I have to say in “Politics in 90 Seconds.” LINK IN BIO!
It was wonderful to join Democrats in San Francisco for the San Francisco Democratic Party Unity Breakfast this morning. This year, it is more important than ever that we come together to #FlipItBlue . When we unite, we can work to restore the American Dream, achieve real progress and build a better future for the next generation of Californians.
I’ve been going back and forth between running for judge executive and running for state representative. After a lot of praying about it, I have decided to run for the office of Knott County Judge Executive. I am not a wealthy politician by any means. I’m a Captain/Chaplain of the Hindman Volunteer Fire Department where I’ve been a member for 7 years, and an EMT of 2 years who genuinely cares about our people and our home.
A new voice, a new vision, and a fresh start!
👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿, Cory Booker!

When ignorance and bigotry are allied with power, it’s a dangerous force in our country.
To not stand up to this; to be silent— is to be a part of the problem.
