I decided to go through this Labyrinth... it was said that Count Dracula was held captive here. Cool right? As you walk through this underground cave beneath the Buda castle your senses kick in. Walking in the dark, alone... your mind wanders which is what happened to me at the end of this video where I freaked myself out trying to find my way back.
History: The Labyrinth is situated in the complex of caves and cellars beneath Castle Hill. The underground labyrinth system served as a large shelter and hospital during World War II, but the Turks also used it back in the 16th century, mainly for military purposes. Remains dating back to the Turkish era confirm that part of the Labyrinth was also used as a harem. In the 15th century the Labyrinth gave home to a prison and it's most famous prisoner was Vlad Tepes, better known as Count Dracula, held in captivity by Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus.
I went into this with rock bottom expectations and because of that I kind of enjoyed the film. Like with every #TomCruise movie, the action sequences and beautiful set-piece moments are really fun to watch. But that’s the thing, I enjoyed watching the film, but now that I’m thinking back about it, it’s a pretty bad movie. .
This film is supposed to set up Universal Pictures’ Monsters Universe, which is supposed to be like Marvel’s Cinematic universe but with all the classic monsters (#Frankenstein , #BoF , #TheMummy , Swamp Thing, Invisible Man, #Dracula , #Wolfman , etc.). The problem is though, if this is supposed to be the Iron Man (2008) to this series, it’s really starting on the wrong foot. I guess #TomCruise is supposed to be like Tony Stark and #RussellCrowe is supposed to be #NickFury but I don’t know who's really excited for that. .
The characters, especially the female lead is a giant antiquated damsel in distress who does nothing but yell our hero’s name constantly and the titular Mummy, who I actually think is really cool, is discarded as quickly as she is undeveloped. It’s a shame, they got talented actors and gave them a rubbish script. .I’ll repeat, this movie is fun to watch but that’s all the praise it should receive.
The Mummy (2017) 6.5/10
