Fine Italianate gilt mirror. A very interesting and highly decorative gilt mirror in the Italian style. The mirror is typically Italian in shape and design but appears to be english made and dates to the Victorian period. For Sale from Prometheus Antiques on Antiques Atlas. It's Sunday, when I share items from my personal collection. This week we have this duo, a recent acquisition almost entirely due to luck! I was visiting an antiques fair in London, and finding it very much focused on furniture and decorative objects rather than porcelain. Disappointed and about to leave, I spotted this beauty in a furniture dealer's cabinet amongst a number of other similar coloured, but unmatched, pieces. The dealer was a bit taken aback when I said I wanted to buy one ("they're really just there to give colour as a display") but, a little gentle persuasion and later, I was the delighted owner of this gorgeous H & R Daniel duo from the first half of the 19th century, in this fabulous maroon colour. I also love the handpainted birds, each one different, and each with an oriental flavour but still very much in the European decorative style. The moulding and gilding is also a hallmark of Daniel's superb quality of workmanship. I feel lucky being the custodian of such beautiful works anyway, but it's particularly special for me when I can find a rare one somewhere totally unexpected, and take it home to be treasured and enjoyed. 🌈.
Great Welsh cupboard, or dresser as they say. Tried to explain to the sellers that a dresser was what you had in your bedroom for your socks, underwear, bras etc.... they just sort of looked at me strangely. They did not seem convinced.#englishantiques#welshdresser#sweet_home_antiques
