One of our fave stops for quick and simple Japanese food is at Rahmen Genki in Artarmon.
Artarmon is a mini Japanese hub with 2 buzzing grocery stores, 2 japanese restaurants ans a growing community of Japanese residents.
Rahmen Genki is a simple no frills place with a bit of a food court vibe. You order at the counter, take a seat inside or outside and they bring your food out to you.
Our must orders are the curries. They have massive mounds of rice and your choice of meat with a generous serving of curry sauce.
We also tried the Piri Miso Ramen which had numbing chilli that got hotter and hotter - perfect for chilly days! 🍲🍛

Beer beer beer - now I have your attention if u haven’t yet u gotta hit up Red Oak Boutique Beer Cafe (more restaurant) in the CBD. I tried a dozen wonderful beers (sour Belgium FTW) and devoured a lot of epic food with foodie mate Adam. Desserts!! Aquafaba/chickpea liquid (eggless) meringue recipe.
aquafaba - the liquid from one 19 ounce (540 ml) can of chickpeas, room temp. (you can make your own chickpea brine, but I haven't tried that route yet.) 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar (for stability)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3/4 cup superfine sugar (you can sub with finely ground coconut palm sugar, or maple syrup.) Directions:
Preheat the oven to 200 F and line baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place aquafaba and cream of tartar in a bowl of a stand-mixer fitted with a whisk attachment. Mix at med-high speed until stiff peaks form. As the mixture becomes thicker, drizzle in the vanilla or other flavoring. Be patient as this may take a bit of time. Tip* Unlike egg-whites, it is impossible to over-whip aquafaba, so whip away. To test if it's ready, gently turn the bowl upside down. If the mixture does not slide down, you can start adding in the sugar. Otherwise, keep on whipping. When ready, add sugar gradually, mix well after each addition. Once all the sugar has been incorporated, the aquafaba meringue mixture should be glossy, thick and look just like egg-white meringue. Tip* Use for pie topping or make meringue cookies. It torches up beautifully as well!
Transfer mixture into a pastry bag fitted with any tip you desire and pipe onto prepared baking sheet. Make sure you leave space in between the piped meringues as they will spread a little. For rainbow coloured meringues, smear paste food coloring inside the bag before adding meringue mixture.
Bake for 1 1/2 - 2 hours, then turn the oven off but leave the tray with meringues inside with the oven's door slightly ajar for another 60 minutes for the meringues to dry out fully. Note: The baking time depends on the size of your meringues, so increase the baking time if you are going for a larger size than the ones I made.
Keep the meringues in an airtight container somewhere cool. Note: After a few days, or if the weather's hot and humid, they'll start to soften up. The aquafaba meringues are best eaten within two days. Enjoy!
Went to check out @palacesupperclub in the Valley tonight 😍 I couldn’t resist because it’s literally a street over from my place and I’ve seen the menu at its entrance ☺️ we had their rock lobster roll and it was delish 👌 with horseradish aioli, cucumber and aioli 👍 decor is stunning too (I’ve put some snaps on my Insta Stories) and there’s seating on the balcony as well. Garlic and chilli ramen. Sitting by the bar watching the noodles being made took us back to Japan. This dish has four levels of spicy ranging from .5 to 3. I asked the waitress how how hot 3 was and she giggled as she said very, very, very, very hot! I went with 1 which had enough heat for me to taste and enjoy but didnt distract from the delicious soy sauce based sauce and thick, freah noodles. Thanks for the recommendation @glendonww !
