A taste of #sanantonio wildlife from this last August. South San Antonio is home to the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center and the grounds are amazing for birding and so much more! The staff at #mitchelllakesa are top notch and you’ll love their wildlife garden. Drive one of the roads around the lake to get to even more exciting critters. My visit was amazing! In honor of Texas’ guests currently arriving from the north, the sandhill crane. Yesterday’s clear skies and calm winds had the cranes moving overhead and their melodic songs were present throughout the day. Migration gets the cranes away from the harsh winter weather of their breeding grounds. Migration also means folks from the Panhandle to the Texas Gulf Coast get to enjoy this most wonderful sign of fall. Seeing the high-flying flocks, that’s another matter. The audio here will let you know what to listen for. Filmed at the panhandle’s #muleshoenwr where Sandhills winter in abundance. Have you heard cranes this fall?
