πŸ“ When programming workout plans, my objective is to remove deficiencies, with strength building being the focus.  Everyone has their goals and one of mine is developing bigger, more powerful hamstrings.  The hamstring is one of the most deficient muscles in the average American that may spawn devastating ailments and injuries!!

πŸ“  When I was developing this workout, the focus was on how I can improve my chest mass, without sacrificing the time that I'd typically focus on building strength. I used compound and supersets in order to increase volume and to also work antagonists muscles, developing greater stability as well.  I used the TUT concept with my compound strength movements simply to change my stimulus.  All of my workouts are completed with minimal rest time and water breaks in order to gain metabolic benefits as well!!

πŸ“š It's Training Tip Tuesday!  Today we look at a balance wheel!
βš–οΈ Everone has facets of life that they balance in order to be that much closer to homeostasis.  Most peoples wheels consist of family and relationships, creativity and play, and rest and sleep, but miss out on constant intellectual stimulation and their sense of purpose.  The human mind is just as important to exercise as the body.  Mental exercise is as important to program into training as physical exercise because mental exercise allows for physical movements to become more efficient, increasing the athletic ceiling for said athlete. πŸ™  It's also important to constantly remind yourself or your athlete of their purpose.  Maintaining ones sense of purpose will help keep them motivated to grind thru the struggles and rough patches.  Remaining headstrong about goals to keep you on track of your goals defines sense of purpose; it's important we don't lose that!!
πŸ™„  Of course our physical health is important, but that's how we got here in the first place; the fact we want to improve our physical status.  Continue to work on balancing your facets of life in a way that will help you reach your goals as well as living a fulfilling life otherwise!!!

πŸ—“This week I've been reflecting on a lot of 2017.  The good, the bad, the ups, and the downs.  Everyday is a blessing and ever pitfall is a test.  From remaining consistent and persistent in times where people doubted me, sticking to my guns and not taking the easy way out, to having my methods glorified, and others not understanding it and shunning it away. πŸ’° I had the opportunity to run a training program, design  training programs, work at the USA Football Camp (at @TowsonUniversity with @TowsonTigersFootball), and network.  I was able to continue developing my philosophy and training methods.  I was able to enhance my technical and mechanical coaching abilities, all while maximizing my role coaching Defensive Backs for Calvert Hall College High School.  I've been able to help great players go pro, good players become great, and people who aren't even athletes become athletes!!
☀  It makes me feel good to know that I was able to help a large sum of people last year and I'm going to do it even better this year.  Another coach told me, "The best coach is the one who helps the most people." I don't fully agree with that; I believe the best coach is the one who can help the most people achieve THEIR goals!! So let's do it together. Let's really get on the ball this year, get it rolling, and Go Hard!!!

πŸ’ƒ It's the first What-A-Move Wednesday for the New Year 2018, and today's the moves are from one of this week's leg routine!
πŸ’“  I love leg day, aside from the pump i get so many other great benefits from hitting my legs muscles. The two i want to focus on today is the pump and test dump.  The pump is something most people who lift chase, thanks to Schwarzenegger πŸ’ͺ, by increasing the muscles time under tension.  This helps to stretch the muscle and fills it with blood.  Then, we have our testosterone dump qhich is typically induced by heavy compound exercises such as squats.  When we perform this compunction lifts, our body dumbs a larger sum of testosterone into our blood stream.  Being that this is a leg workout, that uses some of the larger muscles in the body, the objective would be to have a large testosterone dump into my blood stream, followed by the pump throughout the workout to continue to move testosterone rich blood to the pumped muscles!!
πŸ“ˆ  Being a strength enthuisast πŸ‹ this is one of the methods I use to improve strength among others.  With being strong we want to influence muscle growth.  Filling mt body with the right nutrients right after finishing your workout could make a difference in your recovery and strength gains!!!

πŸ“†Β  I hope that everone had a blessed and memorable 2017, if not i hope these daily tips will help make a better 2018.  Start with what you put in your body, reducing or removing empty calories, drinking at least two liter of water a day, and ingesting 3 servings of green tea or green juice (fruits and veggies) daily.  We may improve the treatment of our body as well by getting at least one our of exercise in, taking stretch breaks, and getting proper sleep.  Our mental state will be the most important to keep sharp in 2018.  An hour of reading, morning meditation, and laughter is crucial to the daily mental health of individuals!!
πŸ—“Β  A new year should not signify the restart of a journey, but an update.  We should be working to update and imporove our lifestyles in the ways we deem most important and it all starts with your ability to care for yourself!!! Happy 2018 everyone!!!

πŸ’ͺ  Last week we talked about how a lot of what makes us successful isn't tangible.  How the things that the public eye cannot see contribute to one's success.  Part of obtaining success is by understanding there are no loses in life, only wins and lessons learned.  You only lose when there was nothing gained.  However, we gain experience, perspective, and hopefully a drive to get better among other things.  For Michael Jordan to say, "I never lost a game, just ran out of time," shows us that losing wasn't possible for him.  He was always looking for more to gain, to get better; to remove excuses and come back at his obstacles that much more resilient; giving himself no option but to be successful his next time out!!
πŸ’‘ What you achieve always begins with what you believe.  Your beliefs set the bar as far as what is and what is not attainable.  Remove doubt, shame, and embarrassment from your mindset.  Allow yourself to have an undefeated mindset, that nothing can take you down.  Allow your mind to follow your heart, listen to your spirit and begin to uncap your limitations!!!

🍽 It's food Friday, and today I bring to you another delicious entrée from Noodles & Company!!
🍲 This is the Pad Thai with sautéed shrimp, parmesean encrusted chicken, and a side ceasar salad.  This rice noodle stir-fry dish has an authentic Thai flavor as tangy and sweet flavors dominate your taste buds dressed with a lime to greater accent the flavors. I added some black pepper and sriracha for an extra kick, and of couse a side ceasar salad!!
πŸ’ͺ Personally, my body needs a lot of calories post workout in order for me to see the kind of changed i desire, which is why i shoot for 800-1200kcal post workout.  I enjoyed this meal, it filled me up and left me feeling refueled.  Give it a try the next time you're in!!!

πŸ’ƒIt's What A Move Wednesday!! Today's moves are with the @helm.fit Stability Trainer!!
🎎 This week was the first time I've heard of, and used, the Helm Fitness Stability Trainer.  The stability trainer is great for adding variety to closed chain exercises.  It allows a greater kinematic advantage when performing pushing and core movements as it allows for the hands to be activated which will reduce passive insufficiency, improve strength and power output, and reduce the risk of injury when training on bosu balls, exercise balls, and even the floor!! One of the greatest testiments to stability training I believe to be πŸ‘‘ @kingjames.  LeBron James constantly has stability work programmed into his training. I believe the constant variation of stability training contributes to muscles being able to beform beyond the means of demand.  LeBron James has doubled the playing time of most people who make it to the NBA, yet he is among the healthiest of athletes.  I believe one of the primary contributer to this is his stability training!!

πŸ“š It's Training Tip Tuesday! Today I wanted to highlight some of the proper footwear you can sport while running!!
πŸƒ Reflecting back to the proper footwear for weightlifting, we know that there is a prescribed and most efficient method for everyone on the individual basis.  When it comes to running I believe that the footwear you have on is one of the most important factors to having a successful, injury free run anf is only behind one's strength conditioning and running mechanics.  Just like any other "tool" we use there is a specific shoe recommended for the type of activity one is looking to participate in based on their personal anatomy.  The shoe that one chooses to wear could make the difference in energy expenditure, foot and lower leg injuries, and most of all winning and losing!!
πŸ‘£  Personally, I prefer cushioned running shoes to run in.  I don't have a high arch, AT ALL, and a lot of the shoes with the arches built in will cause pain for me after walking for an extended period of time.  However, what's right for me may not be right for you.  One may need the extra arch support for smoother and more fluid ground strikes when sprinting.  Make sure you try BOTH of your shoes on before you buy them to make sure they can go the distance!!

Unfortunately, not everyone bares the proper footwear they should workout in.  It is important that the shoes you wear are suitable for the activity you participate in, in order to strenthen, improve flexibility, and prevent injury to the foot, ankle, and knee that may be caused by improper footwear during physical activity.  The technology and structure that shoes possess make them more suitable to be used in some environments than others.  For example, you wouldn't wear field cleats on hardwood, as they are not built to track on hardwood and you wouldnt wear a running shoe with an air max sole to squat as that distributes the weight uneavenly throughout the foot!!
πŸ‘£  Personally, i prefer for my standing lifts to be performed in socks without shoes; this way i can engage more muscles in my foot, apply force properly to the ground thru my heels, and reduce energy leaks that may be cause from the responsiveness of the shoe without worrying too much about sanitation.  Everyone is more than welcome to have their own preference of athletic footwear, just keep in mind the pros and cons the of the footwear you use to train in!!

As a Football and Performance Coach, I know that there are some fears when practicing and competing; possible fear of injury and fear of failure I believe are two of the most common states.  Fear is an emotion that we often give too much credence to.  We can't control our fear, however we can change how we let our fears affect us.  How do we control how it affects us?  One was is to determine what's more important,  the goal you'd like to achieve or your fear? At the end of the day that obstical that you fear may be the very one you need to overcome in order to make the progressions you desire!!

πŸƒ Most Americans live a lifestyle where we're constantly on the go, which unfortunately has popularized a lot of the foods that lead us further away from our physical and aesthetic goals; we forget about the foods that provide us with the energy and nutrients necessary to perform at a high level.  Keep in mind the type of work that you are doing should dictate the type for fuel necessary to run efficiently!
πŸš—  I often compare the human body to motor vehicles due to the sensitivity to specific fliuds.  For example, you aren't gonna put alternator fluid into your engine as oil, gas into your coolant tank, and if you want your body to run like a Ferrari you arent going to put 87 Octane into your tank, but a higher octane of fuel that will prevent knocking (cramping, nausea, dizziness, etc.) while using your "vehicle" to perform!!

Just like a plant our bodies are just as responsive to the outside environment as the environment inside of your body.  The environment within our body is constantly changing, however what we need to fuel our body seldom changes.  Sunlight, Hydration, Recovery, Breathing, Fitness, and Nutrition are all ways we continue to help our body grow.
πŸ’‘ Keep in mind if we aren't progressing we are regressing, just as plants do.  Our body is constantly seeking homeostasis and the most efficient way to exercise.  Therefore, if our body needs more muscle to make a task less daunting, your body will build that muscle and if your body has muscle it doesn't use, it will metabolize.  There is no way to maintain the exact same physical state over an extended amount of time, but these key points will get you as close as possible!!!

πŸ“š It's Training Tip Tuesday, and today we're focusing on 5 tips for injury prevention! Football season is almost in full swing so here are some tips to keep fall athletes healthy year round!
⏱1. Take Time Off - As much as I'd like to believe it sometimes, we are NOT machines; we're human. As humans we wear down, get tired or sometimes even burn out. Listen to your body when it tells you to rest in order to remain fresh, focused, and feeling good!
πŸ‹ 2. Strengthen Muscles - Is what I believe to be one of the best ways to prevent injury WHEN DONE PROPERLY! I always like to think of our muscles as bolts to our joints with weights acting as a wrench; used to tighten a joint to a specific pressure while knowing applying too much pressure could destroy the joint you're looking to secure; creating stronger bones, muscles, and joints to deal with greater eccentric forces that usually cause these injuries!
πŸƒ3. Active Recovery - this method uses easy to moderate intensity exercises to deliver greater blood supply to the muscle to allow them to recover.  This may be my favorite ways to recover from a heavy leg day. Don't forget to get the right nutrients in you to promote greater muscle cell growth during recovery!
πŸ’¦4. Drink More Water - Our body is comprised of an estimated 60% water and our muscles are 79% which makes water extremely important to our make-up.  Increased and proper hydration is critical for proper brain fuction, motor function, and survival in general! I gave a motivational post last Monday that explains a bit more in depth the imprtance of water, go check it out!!
πŸ›‘5. Play safe - Of course!! Proper technique, execution, focus are all things that need to be present to play safe. Keep in mind that playing safe and playing scared are two different mindsets (I'll touch on this in another post).

One thing I've always glorified about myself are my hips; their stability, mobility, and power generation which is important in athletics among other physical activities! πŸ˜‰
πŸ’ͺBeing able to generate power through the hips is key when performing, the summation of power from the upper and lower body meet at the hips for force production and the movement is produced! Did 3 sets of 8 here increasing weight each set. This is my second set here, 165lbs/ 75kg
