A farmer once told me, “When you have live stock, you have dead stock”. I uncovered the truth behind his claim during an investigation of a dairy farm.
Death is not uncommon here. Her decomposing corpse was left exposed. Calves in a holding pen just metres away watched as crows gauged at her eyes and tongue.
She had been intentionally bred into an endlessly cycle of exploitation. Stolen from her mother at a tender age, she existed because we demand dairy.
Now, she is gone.
