THE GRAND GATEWAY
One of the most beautiful places in Earth! The layers upon layers of eroded rock leading down Havasu Creek to the mighty Colorado River are something to only truly comprehend in person. I originally wanted to visit the area I'd seen in thousands of photos where the Colorado's murky brown water meters with the Gatorade colored clear water off Havasu Creek. The destination is usually what I have in mind and focus on, but the trek to this rarely seen beautiful piece of nature was more than I could've ever imagined! I'm ready for a trip back to Supai!
Grand Canyon National Park
Beautiful hiking evening, particularly after getting a bit of rain in the early hours earlier this morning!
In 2011, shortly after finishing my Master's Degree from the University of Nevada, I headed over to the Colorado Plateau to venture around for a few weeks. While staying a few nights in Page, Arizona, I tried locating a place called Stud Horse Point, but I ended up rescuing two German girls who were stuck in the desert after driving their little rental car into a giant mound of sand. I decided to find the place for real this time, and after driving up a steep, sandy hill, I found this overlook. Since flying drones over Lake Foul (hater's terminology for Lake Powell), is illegal, I flew my drone away from the illegal area to get a different perspective of this rock formation and the shameful lake in the background. If you want to know why I drink the Haterade when it comes to Lake Foul, read some Edward Abbey or look up some pictures about how glorious Glen Canyon was before it was damned.
So I’m going to do a Q&A video on YouTube (link in description or search Alan Brock on YouTube). Any questions you might have for me, regarding anything...not just photography, feel free to leave them here or in the YouTube comments.
Taken on the first day of mine and @lowerylandscapes trip into the remote canyons of Utah, this was an image that I was unsure of even as I was taking it. The glow was strong when I first saw it, but as I was setting up it was clear that it was starting to fade. I decided to expose a single sheet of @fujifilm_profilm Velvia 50 to see if it could work its magic. When I got the film back, I glanced at it one the light table, wasn’t too impressed, and set it aside. I knew I would put it in the video, but not much else. However, and I didn’t notice this initially, when I was editing the camera pans for the final image, I noticed that the walls in the foreground were almost completely monochrome. Thinking it might have been something with my editing, I went back and double checked the film and sure enough it was monochrome there too. I’m still a little hesitant about the image, but I definitely think it’s good enough to show and maybe even sneak into the portfolio. What do you guys think about it?? I’m genuinely curious to hear your thoughts.
Taken with the @intrepidcameraco 4x5 on the aforementioned Fuji Velvia 50.
Lowkey wearing 3 jackets in this photo, ‘cause boy was it cold 😅
I was finally able to conquer the mountain I see right outside my door everyday. It's been on my list since I moved to southeast Gilbert, but due to some red tape and the overall unappealing look of the small range I've put it in the back burner. Today was the day to finally push the summit! We scrambled all day, with loose rocks and wet dirt, false summit after false summit. Finally reached the top and I must say it's much more appealing once standing on top! I know this isn't the actual summit picture but I have one if those up shortly! ***Must obtain access permit from Gila River Indian Community*""
Driving home from Vegas & I spotted a crested saguaro off the highway. My ever-patient hubby pulled over to the side of 93 with the flashers on so I could bushwhack in to get a better look at it. It’s definitely seen better days, but it was worth crawling through some barbed-wire to check it out. 🌵
Eevi was checking all the lights to make sure they were lit and admiring the amount of lights!!! We had a yummy dinner at Santa Fe Bite, where water was spilled all over Eevi's jacket (not their fault). She looked like a little E.T. running around the Santa Fe Plaza. #bokeh_is_life
I haven’t bought one Christmas present, and I don’t even care. 🧡Memories instead of things. I didn’t finish my decorating, I didn’t bake treats. I finally realized that isn’t what makes me happy. (I guess it’s time to Amazon, after I go see #StarWars of course.) PC @sladerradmallisdead #sometimesiwearpants
