❇ 🇹🇷🇳🇩🇳🇬 ❇ "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor" was released 11 years ago today & even though Lupe's never been one of my favorite artists, I still think the guy is without a doubt one of the most talented, interesting & passionate rappers to ever do it, so props to him today on the anniversary of his debut album, which not only earned him a spot in the rap game but THREE Grammy nominations as well. 🏆 LFF&L is also significant for blending the two worlds of skateboarding & hip hop for pretty much the first time, w/ Lupe's fantastic ode to skating, the album's lead single, "Kick Push." Since "Kick Push," rap + skateboarding is almost commonplace, (more so in certain regions), evidenced by facts like artists & groups such as Odd Future repping skate culture constantly & one of the goats, Lil Wayne, creating his own skateboarding clothing line, TRUKFIT. 🚧 So, it's clear there's some definite overlap to the cultures that wasn't present anytime before 2000 & I think Lupe can be credited as one of the godfathers of that movement; yes, "Kick Push" is that good. ☑ But...it's not my favorite song on the album & neither is "Kick Push 2." That's gotta be the woozy, summertime anthem "Daydreaming" feat. Jill Scott. 🌞 Man, I must've played that shit a thousand times when it came out & I STILL get pumped when I hear it. 😁 Rounding out the album's tracklist, there's "The Cool," a perfect intro to Lupe's style & personality, then "American Terrorist" feat. Mathew Santos, which has Lupe's political side on full display & as for the rest? Fuck it-just go give it a listen. 11 years old or not, the music's good enough to be timeless. ⭐ In 2012, Lupe released a follow-up album "Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1" & ICYMI, his latest album, "Drogas Light" was released earlier this year. 🎧
@telaholcomb and I want to know the best newsletter name about money and investing you can come up with. We're thinking of pulling the answers together for a poll and turning it into a contest where the winning name gets a prize. 😉
