We will be preparing our third year of tapas menus and promise popular dishes like whitebait and aioli, pancetta roast mushrooms and spiced lamb rump will be back along with some new dishes.
This is the way to eat; small dishes of food with real flavour designed to be eaten with friends and good wine.
Last year it stormed a lot on Friday nights and we moved people into the winery and cellar door. It wasn’t to plan but ended up being a nice way for people to mix – I’m hoping for a repeat performance of Lowe rain making activities.
Friday 2nd February // Friday 9th February // Friday 16th February // Friday 23rd February
Time: 6.00 – 8.30 pm.
Price: $55 a head. Book on the website.
Possibly the best NZ Pinot I’ve ever tasted @cereswines. 🤔.
Pinot Noir 2008.
Blended from 11 selected barrels to provide different components, the result is complexity the like of which I’ve not had in a NZ Pinot. .
So much expression on the nose and yet such delicacy and shy restraint.
Soft, deep violets. Warm baking spice, savoury berries and plums. Sun parched herbs and earth. Crushed coffee granules and rare steak but always with a freshness belying age.
The palate starts soft and smooth with more lush, concentrated, elegant berries, plums and a touch of sour cherry. This moves to savoury fruits again, then black olive and seared game.
Acidity is racy, lively. Tannins still provide a touch of grip and dryness but are flexible and meld to the changing nature of the wine.
Rear palate shows more lean, dusty earth, fresh mushroom and dried herbs. Minerality is quite stunning. This is hot rain on iron rich schist. Structure is superb. Texture is mouthfilling but still with restraint.
This is a Pinot edging from primary to tertiary aromas and flavours but edging slowly.
And those flavours!
For the first time in any wine, flavour has dimension. It’s not just a plum, I can taste the flesh, the juice, the tannic skin and it’s texture and even the sourness as the flesh detaches from around the stone.
The earth and herbs are sun baked, thin and dusty. Barely able to cling to the rock and schist.
@cereswines a masterpiece!
How cool and contemporary are these #Champagne labels from @champagne_materetfilii?! 😎🍾 Proprietor Jérôme Dhuicq left a career in finance to reconnect with his roots and tend to his mother’s vineyards in the Marne Valley… and from there Mater et Filii was born! The house name comes from the Latin for "Mother and Sons" and the logo is a DNA strand representing not only the link between family but also also the ground and the vines 🍃 Don’t you love it when a wine tells a story? 😍We can’t wait to taste these - look for our review very soon 🥂 #Materetfilii#ChampagneLover#WineLover#ChampagnePop#InstaWine#Wine#FrenchWine#WineLabel
#winelovers 🍷 #redwine#médoc#bernardmagrezwine#bernardmagrez#instawine @bernardmagrez
Our last night in Guatemala we were in Guatemala City and found a delicious Spanish restaurant, Mario’s, where we enjoyed delicious sparkling wine. What a great trip. Cheers to such a beautiful country.
Icario Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2011:
This Vino Italiano takes a little time to open up but once it does it blooms. A bouquet of roses, violets, sandalwood and star anise excite your nose. Subtle notes of black currant jam on the palate and a long finish with firm tannins. This is an excellent sipping wine if you like big tannins but pairs beautifully with beef tenderloin or even a rich rosé pasta. Delishhhh. 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷 @icariowinery #vinonobiledimontepulciano#sangiovese#vinoitaliano#thatsamore
CRAZY color on this 2010 Paolo Bea Abboreus Umbria IGT Bianco! #sommhubby said he was bringing home a “geeky Italian white,” and he wasn’t wrong. Savory and weighty for a white; drinks more like a red. Give a few minutes to open up and soften what I found to be an initial sharpness. Really interesting and different.
