I didn't think the sunsets in Michigan would compare to Arizona's, but this one over Lake Superior sure did. I was so excited I couldnt help but gallop over the sand dunes, kicking my heels up with joy. #inquisitivesouls
I'm settling into my winter home, which is Pagosa Springs Colorado. The days are growing colder and I'm surrounded by pine trees bracing for the coming snow. But my mind continually drifts back to Michigan and the many happy days spent enjoying the sincere warmth of the Midwest. My days here are busy and happy, and yet filled with somber longing for the homes I've left behind. #inquisitivesouls
Cheesin' with this sweet soul on our first dirt bike ride together. Getting a little lost on these back roads was a particularly incredible way to see the Upper Peninsula, and being forced into riding on all that soft sand definitely made me stronger and more confident on my bike. Thanks for putting up with my absurdity, stubbornness and occasional terror @gmortie3rd 🙃 #inquisitivesouls#holywah
If you're passing through Houghton, Michigan, a stop at this historical tavern is well-worth the time. The murals on the walls were painted at the turn of the century and depict hoards of gnomes in various stages of celebration. As the poem on their menu explains, the world was very different back then: "Streets were of dirt, sidewalks of wood, hitching posts for horses, business was good. Beer for a nickel, whiskey for a dime, sandwiches a quarter any old time." The establishment became a speakeasy during prohibition but the murals were stored away for over a decade. Luckily, the paintings were found and restored and put on display when the bar was renovated in the 1950s. If pizza with ambiance is your thing, stop and feast while watching the river. #inquisitivesouls
Ahh, the fall colors!! This was my first time seeing the epic northern color change and I was completely blown away by its magnificence. Our timing was perfect and we caught the Keweenaw peninsula at its prime. I'm already looking forward to more excursions in this magical country. #inquisitivesouls
One of the most memorable things I did in Marquette was get up early for a sunrise tour of the lighthouse in town. The morning was incredibly peaceful and we watched wild peregrine falcons hunting in the silky shadows before dawn. #inquisitivesouls
Downtown Marquette is fabulously vibrant for such a small town. Last night I ate at The Delft, an old movie theater converted into a restaurant that shows old movies on a massive projector while patrons dine. #inquisitivesouls
So I've been a little MIA lately, and for good reason. I decided to give myself a break and just be fully present during my time in Marquette. I truly love this town and the people I have met and I realized the greatest and healthiest gift I could give myself was to just BE HERE. My computer is full of unedited photos and videos but I'm too happy to care. I'll have plenty of time to sift and sort when I'm back in Arizona, but for now, I'm enjoying every minute of time in this beautiful corner of the country. Isn't that what travel is about? #inquisitivesouls#dontdoitforthegram
Good evening from Lake Superior! So far the trip has been incredible. It's amazing how foreign a place can be while still being in the same country. I've tried new foods, learned a new vernacular and challenged myself in a host of different ways. Marquette is a special town, full of warm people and quirky charm. It's quickly come to feel like home and I'm hoping the next two weeks go by slowly. #inquisitivesouls
