The power of a stocked freezer... ⠀
Last week was one of those that seemed to come roaring in and out- no meal planning happened- no grocery shopping occurred- we ate from the freezer with the aid of some pantry staples. ⠀
In retrospect, I'm proud of my hoarding and pull-a-meal together skills.. on the other hand I'm super annoyed at my lack of "togetherness" to adequately have prepared us for the week. ⠀
Nonetheless, we survived. And in this time of great abundance, do yourself a favor and find one thing to preserve for Winter🐿 It may seem super Martha Stewart, I know. But I promise on that cold Sunday when you stay in and watch Netflix, and the corn added to your soup is from Summer, or the roasted tomatoes on your pizza were plucked at the peak of the season; you will NOT regret it!! 👌🏼⠀
Here's to a great week!💜

I’ve been back in Florida for a week now and I already miss Michigan so much! It was beautiful and was just starting to look like fall there, something I’ll never get in Florida. I can’t wait to go back 🍁
Part of what we want to do at Heart of the Lakes is show people and their connection to nature - we as people need nature, and nature needs people to help protect and preserve it.
Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to interview attendees at our "The Land Makes Us" conference to get some perspective on the people that have committed their professional lives to improving, protecting, and encouraging the interaction between people and the land.
I begin by talking to Ann, Executive Director of the Michigan Recreation and Parks Association (mParks). "I've been in the parks and recreation field since I was 16 years old. I started as a lifeguard at the local community pool, and then worked at a summer camp, and then worked in three recreation departments for 32 years."
I ask her, "Would the 16 year old Ann ever picture the Ann now..." "Having a 40 year career?" she interjects. "No, never." I ask her what she hoped to gain attending the conference. "It's just all about networking, collaboration, and partnership. The more we work together, the more we have a unified message, the better and stronger we are as a profession." Different people interpret our responsibility to land conservation different ways, and Ann talks about her work directly and with authority, and it conveys that she feels strongly that conversations and concrete action should always go hand in hand.
I look around the room, and I see a room full of young people, so I ask her, "Coming from someone with a 40 year career in this field, what's it like looking around a room like this and seeing so many people under 30?" "It's about time," she says with a smirk.

Grooms Cake 🎂
Naked wedding cake 🎂
So PROUD of me & ma on doing our very FIRST wedding cake 😩😭 four tiers( 8 layers) ...& GroomsMen cake.. we DID THAT 🙏🏾❤️ What a LESSON LEARNED.. after NO SLEEP & not eating a day (or two) we realized just how much WORK & COSTLY it is to make a wedding cake from SCRATCH 🙈 (Thinking about that BOX CAKE MIX next time) 😂😜 lol & although everything you can imagine going wrong, WENT WRONG, & we didn't get the end result we hoped for.. I'm beyond PROUD of US & all the HARD WORK & LOVE we put into pulling this off!! I love the BONDING experience & being able to share this experience with my mom... means the world to ME!! She's the bomb.com & as my sweet Bella says.. HER cakes are AMAZING!!! & the fact she's already teaching Bella how to bake, it's something that will be passed down to the next generation!! Three generations full of GREATNESS & although theirs much more to be LEARNED... (we are NOT PROFESSIONALS..YET, just LOVE to bake cakes) & everything is SELF TAUGHT/GOD GIVEN... we will ONLY get GREATER!!! So to anyone doing something you've never done before, BE ENCOURAGED.. you may not get it perfect the first time, things may go wrong, some people may not like it, may not think your worth it, or just count you out.. BUT their are so many GREATS who have created many of the things we use today... that didn't get it right the first time, that got a NO, thumbs down & counted out.. but they didn't QUIT.. so rather it ends good or bad, don't DOUBT YOURSELF or the Gift/Talent God gave YOU.. & don't let the opinions of OTHERS, become how you feel about YOURSELF.. but learn from every EXPERIENCE & do better each chance you get!! You LIVE, You LEARN, & You GROW 😘
When starting a business one of the hardest decision is first coming up with a name and then a logo to follow. So today I want to share my process.
1. If you look up Jenny (my name) in the dictionary it means a female Wren bird. So close friends have called me Wren since 4th grade.
2. I wanted the "Wren" lettering as close to my handwriting, without actually being handwritten.
3. The color was chosen because of my love for the outdoors. I grew up enjoying nature . I primarily photograph outdoors.
4. I live in a place that has four amazing seasons. So to showcase that my logo designer also created 4 additional logos that are used during summer, fall, winter, and spring. You can see these by swiping left.
5. Last, but certainly not least, a brand is more than a logo. Remember that. It's what you say. What images you post. It's YOU. .
If you own your own business where did your name/logo come from?
