Know someone who is struggling to make contact in their Snatch & Clean? In the snatch- This is a great drill to learn & get comfortable making contact at the hip. You can do the SAME drill for the clean, it’s just normally going to be a lower contact point. Either way, use this as a warm up or even between your sets to make it a habit!

Life’s a beach 🏝 || Woke up in my happy place • Made it safely to Maui last night! Word of advice - if you use a concentrator like myself, planes are not strong enough to charge the batteries so be sure to bring enough external batteries for the duration of the flight! How’s your balance?  When your movement is on point, it’s a game changer for everything you do. 🔥ULTIMATE BALANCE HACK🔥

The way we move is based on four input components:
1. The vestibular system (fluid movement in the semilunar canals).
2. The visual system (essentially the righting reflex, orienting yourself to the horizon).
3. Proprioceptive Input (your body’s awareness of itself in space).
4. Neuromuscular System (adaptive response and movement).

When there is a gap in one or more of those systems, you’ve got the balance of 89 year old Emma loaded with blood thinners while standing on a Bosu ball. -
We can break down the main restrictions in balance (remember, these are global non specific restrictions).
Your ankles, which end up missing dorsiflexion and intrinsic stability of the foot itself so it’s like wearing a cinder block on your foot all day. 
Your hips, which become more like a rusty hinge on a 74 Pinto than a smooth 360 degrees joint. And your midline itself, loaded with pillowy softness and the support of a bean bag chair on a waterbed. -
TEST THE SYSTEM:
Single leg double handed toe touches for 30 seconds, if you’re fatigued, imbalanced or get less than 15 each side, you fail.

Your CNS is malleable, so to hack your balance you need to unload the femoroacetabular joint, create space and allow that movement to remain, reclaim ankle dorsiflexion and circumduction, retrain antiflexion/antirotation/antiextension in the midline, and force the system to reprogram.

Try out these hip flexor and quad stretching variations‼️ The traditional half-kneeling hip flexor stretch with your knee on the ground can be uncomfortable for people. Also the traditional standing quad stretch is typically performed wrong and requires balance.

There are 4️⃣ stretching variations provided focused on the hip flexors and quadriceps.

1️⃣ Pretzel stretch ➡️ one of my favorites for stretching the rectus femoris
.
2️⃣ Standing stool stretch ➡️ a great standing variation of the hip flexor stretch
.
3️⃣ Prone table stretch ➡️ This one is nice as it has options for just the hip flexors OR bend the knee and hit the quadriceps group
.
4️⃣ Half kneeling stretch with pad ➡️ with the minor adjustment of having the kneecap off the pad, this can make the stretch more comfortable

Training it 3 times a week with Lateral Flexion, Extension and Flexion.

As it's not easiest to add load to have been using increasing reps week to week with flexion and lateral flexion exercises. Extension I have a harness so utilising a linear loading strategy.

The neck tends not to require much volume in general and also as its so undertrained in most people. So each day is 3 sets all with higher rep ranges.
#
Have taken measurements so hoping to see a good increase in muscle size here over the 12 weeks.

While joint hypermobility may predispose one to injuries during certain tasks, it can certainly also be advantageous with other activities. Many elite athletes from gymnastics, martial arts, dance, climbing and so on demonstrate considerable hypermobility. The key in these situations is to also possess the neuromuscular capacity (motor control and strength) to accommodate the increase in mobility.

Rotator cuff exercise for shoulder stability:
•Resisted external rotation - keep your elbow CLOSE to your body, if you find it is leaving your side, squeeze a towel between your elbow and your trunk, and only go as far out as you can while maintaining your elbow close to your body, if you start to wing out, decrease the range of motion. Keep your shoulders square, do not twist your torso to achieve the movement - use. your. shoulders. Try and make the movement as fluid as possible, the more you work on it the less jerky it will get. If your movement is jerky throughout the entire range, use less resistance. Aim for 10-12 reps, if you aren't feeling it by rep 8, you're doing it wrong.• #inthebox #intheboxpt @crossoversymmetry

3 Ways You Can Increase The Weight You Can Lift At The Same Strength

1. Tightness - How tight is your lifting setup - have you decreased the range of motion? Improved you mechanical leverage? Improved the angles of certain physical structures? All these aspects can cause you to lift a weight in a stronger position.

2. Efficiency - How are you lifting the weight? Can you pull the bar in a more efficient path? Can you hold the bar in a better line stacking joints, gravity maximising your bodies ability to hold or lift load.

3. Repeatability - Have you reached a point where every part of the lift is mechanical. Do you walk out for a squat the same time every time. Do you unrack the bench in the same position, do you use the same mental cues, are your eyes facing the same direction.

All these aspects cause you to gain focus, develop consistency and prepare your body to react in a habitual manner under load.

Have a look at Brookes squat. The setup; head position, wrist position, grip and eyes all show that this is a lifter that has perfected the art of efficiency, tightness and repeatability.

If you’re a relatively new lifter perfecting these steps you can easily add 5-10kg on the bar and help you progress much faster.

Continuing on from the thoracic spine theme. Here is an exercise which is very similar to the ‘bow and arrow’ thoracic rotation stretch. Adding a kettlebell helps load rotation and adds some stability work to the shoulder. When to try this? If you have tightness through the mid back and mild shoulder instability/weakness.

Attempt 1: 325 - I misgrooved this on the way up because I was nervous about my 2nd and 3rd attempts.

Attempt 2: 340 - I slowed my descent and increased control. Went great.

Attempt 3: 350 - I pumped myself up so much for this. Going into beast mode with the help of @nikko_ofthegym and guy in the back whose name I forgot. THIS IS WHY I POWERLIFT. I WAS SO HAPPY AFTER THIS.

The stationary bike is an awesome tool for someone wanting to get some cardio in or someone coming back from some knee issues. However, too often it is used incorrectly!

When riding bikes as children, we try to race the other neighborhood kids, pushing as hard as we can to be faster. Typically, these bikes have no foot straps nor do kids use biking shoes. Because of this, biking becomes a quad-dominant exercise.

Because such emphasis is placed on the quads at a younger age, we neglect the hamstrings when we do have foot straps or access to biking shoes when we are older. Due to this emphasis, it can lead down a path of chronic knee pain (a path my fiancée is dealing with now!).

Therefore, instead of pushing the pedal over and over, try PULLING the pedal upwards to recruit those hamstring muscles and help take some stress away from your knee.

How it happened: Steelers RB Le’veon Bell took a direct blow to his femur causing his tibia to whip forward (see the picture - the ACL is in red). This anterior translation of the tibia (or a posterior translation of the femur) is one mechanism of injury for an ACL tear. .

What was injured: Nothing definitive, especially since he was able to return to the game a few plays later. However, if his foot had been planted or had stuck in the ground, he could have torn his ACL and possibly more. .

What to expect: More fantasy points assuming there were no lingering effects from the injury after the game or in any upcoming practices.

EXERCISE: Interval Sprints .

This is what I have been doing for cardio lately. I usually hate treadmills, bikes, stair-masters, etc. but sometimes I come up with ways to love them. In my journey of becoming aesthetically pleasing along with being able to perform well I have found this treadmill and I absolutely love it. It’s self propelled so there isn’t a specific speed you can set on it which makes doing sprints a breeze. Heres some tips I have when using this treadmill

🐢I highly suggest making sure you can first walk on this treadmill without looking down at the track before you start running on it. It’s a little bit funky for the first couple of times and it feels like you’re going to fall on you face until you get the hang of it

🐢There are hand rails on this treadmill for a reason. Most of the time it feels like you’re gunna fall on your face anyway so don’t get cocky and use the hand rails when needed
.
🐢If you do not have this treadmill in your gym you can still perform this exercise with a regular treadmill. Turn the treadmill on to a speed you can comfortably sprint on. Hop on, sprint until you cant, then hop off onto the side platforms to take a break

How’s your balance?  When your movement is on point, it’s a game changer for everything you do. 🔥ULTIMATE BALANCE HACK🔥

The way we move is based on four input components:
1. The vestibular system (fluid movement in the semilunar canals).
2. The visual system (essentially the righting reflex, orienting yourself to the horizon).
3. Proprioceptive Input (your body’s awareness of itself in space).
4. Neuromuscular System (adaptive response and movement).

When there is a gap in one or more of those systems, you’ve got the balance of 89 year old Emma loaded with blood thinners while standing on a Bosu ball. -
We can break down the main restrictions in balance (remember, these are global non specific restrictions).
Your ankles, which end up missing dorsiflexion and intrinsic stability of the foot itself so it’s like wearing a cinder block on your foot all day. 
Your hips, which become more like a rusty hinge on a 74 Pinto than a smooth 360 degrees joint. And your midline itself, loaded with pillowy softness and the support of a bean bag chair on a waterbed. -
TEST THE SYSTEM:
Single leg double handed toe touches for 30 seconds, if you’re fatigued, imbalanced or get less than 15 each side, you fail.

Your CNS is malleable, so to hack your balance you need to unload the femoroacetabular joint, create space and allow that movement to remain, reclaim ankle dorsiflexion and circumduction, retrain antiflexion/antirotation/antiextension in the midline, and force the system to reprogram. 
Here’s how (unless you want to stay slow and injured 😉).
