🔮✨⚡️This one was much anticipated amongst staff here at Mary Martin, and the latest Diviners novel, 'Before the Devil Breaks You' did not disappoint! 🔮
Storm clouds are brewing, and the newly united Diviners are facing even darker times as they race to strengthen their powers and find answers to the many questions hovering over them. ⠀
Interestingly, although 'Before the Devil Breaks You' features plenty of supernatural spookiness (including a terrifying scene in an asylum!), much of the evil doing in this book is all-too human in ways that strike a chord in the current political climate. It's also, once again, a thrilling read!
Happy Death Day (Christopher Landon, 2017)
Self centred college student Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) relives the day of her own murder on a continuous loop. The only way to escape? Solve her own murder.
Happy Death Day is an entertaining twist on that of a "whodunnit" film that has enough twists and excitement to keep the audience entertained.
Jessica Rothe is great as Tree, in which she plays a character that you would struggle to like. However as the film continues, Tree learns that she needs to change her approach to people. The development of the relationship between Tree and Carter (Israel Broussard) may seem slightly manufactured but it is believable after all the trauma the former has faced.
Packed with enough suspense, Happy Death Day doesn't overstay it's welcome with a runtime of 96 minutes, nor does it's pace let itself down.
With a final twist on who the killer really is, the audience will be left surprised and will want to rewatch the film for clues and subtle hints.
Quote of the film:
Killer: how did you figure it out?
Tree: because you've killed me before
Killer: well I'm just going to have to kill you again
