🔥Turn your body so that you aren't facing your desk 🔥 Inhale reach your hands above your shoulders
🔥 Exhale place your arm thay is closest to the desk on the chair or desk

January's #poseofthemonth is #SvargaDvijasan or #BirdofParadise .
Although the Birds of Paradise yoga pose is not recommended for yoga newbies, by doing a limited #variation of the pose, it will help to loosen up stiff hips and the groin region.
This is a recommended pose for individuals who spend a great deal of time sitting down, such as people who have an office/computer/typing job.
Here's some benifits to #birdofparadisepose :
Improves balance and stability, which is extremely important, especially as a person ages.
Over time, your body will become fit, lean, strong and toned.
Mental concentration will improve, because yoga is as much a mental exercise as a physical one.
Brain fog will become a thing of the past as this exercise requires mental focus.
Your hips, hamstrings and groin will be stretched, which in turn will increase overall flexibility.
Legs and calves will become stronger as these are the areas that are targeted.
Internal organs will get a great massage, due to the twisting and stretching involved in this particular pose.
Join us tomorrow for Yoga & Art from 9:30a-11:15a to relax, re-center and rejuvenate at the museum! We will discuss a work of art in the galleries then practice gentle yoga for an hour. Please bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing that allows you to stretch. Pricing: $12 per drop in class.

January's Pose of the Month is Revolved Extended Side Angle Pose.
There is a lot going on in this powerful standing, deep twist. Throughout January we will be progressively working toward this pose. Our poses of the week are a layered investigation of what is required from both the mind and body in order to be mentally present and physically strong in this pose. Our weekly layers will bring our awareness to different areas of the body that need to be warm, open, and strong as we build to our peak pose of the month. "Revolved Side Angle stretches, tones, and strengthens the entire body, inside and out. 🔥It stretches the thighs, knees, ankles, calves, groins, chest, and shoulders. 🔥This pose builds strength in the legs, as well, particularly in the quadriceps and ankles. 🔥It also stimulates and tones the abdominal organs and lungs, which can improve digestion, elimination, metabolism, and breathing capacity. 🔥This pose challenges and improves your balance, and it also helps to develop stamina and full-body coordination. 🔥It improves concentration, increasing energy and confidence. 🔥It relieves stiffness in the shoulders, and can also be therapeutic for low back pain and sciatica. 🔥In addition, twisting helps to detoxify the body by stimulating fresh blood flow through some organs." #body#mind#connection#breathe#yogaeverydamnday#yogaaddict#yoga#stretch#strengthen#tone#breath#stamina#practiceyogachangeyourworld#poseofthemonth

Pose of the month: Warrior 3
A standing balance posture that improves stability and strength. Balance is clearly important, but core stability and strength through the entire back are also key
Establish a strong foundation with the standing leg. Then lift the back leg and begin to hinge at the hip allowing the torso to come forward
Maintain an active core as you keep your hips level, eventually reaching the arms overhead
If this pose looks intimidating we’ve got great news! We will be guiding you through progressions all month long!
It’s pose of the month time! To start off 2018, we have seated forward bend, also known as:
Start seated with your legs outstretched. Flex your feet and root your sitbones into the mat.
Engage your core & reach high on your inhale. With a long spine, fold forward on your exhale. Reach for your toes, shins, or wrap a strap around your feet if your hamstrings are tight.
Inhale again to lengthen, fold deeper on the exhale. Repeat several times, and then gently release.
Be gentle with yourself! If you feel tugging on your low back, soften your knees. Breathe deep & enjoy! 😊🙏🏼

These are challenging to me so I should probably pop up more 😎
I learned a lot thru teaching this pose this month tho -like that block between my feet helps keep toes in & heels out (a common misalignment) and 2 blocks on an angle against the baseboards helps if wrist issues are a problem or even for a good warm-up 😘
Thanks! @kamaste_ s @reganwarner @sdharamr @stephaniekicksbutt @yogaandchaigirl
