This sweet church school (CCS!!!)suffered significant damage due to flooding the weekend before school started. The entire K12 facility has relocated into an old furniture store owned by one of the granddaddies. We toured the formerly gorgeous campus this morning as we served their preschool, then met everyone else this afternoon. So many flood stories...but children tell them differently: “I got to ride in a boat!” “I got an extra month of summer vacation!” 😂😂😂 We gave every student and teacher affected by Harvey their own bit of comfort. 💗💗💗 #quiltsofcompassion#quiltsforharvey#quiltsforthesouth#islandtimequilting
We have distributed hundreds of quilts today! What a privilege it is to serve this community. ❤️❤️❤️
Please join me in praying for Esme and her mother Marta. Marta is in hospital in Managua, Nicaragua for weeks now with a bacterial infection, and Esme is attempting to recover from Harvey flooding.
Van loaded with 400 MORE quilts from our great friends in Austin! I had to reuse the vacuum bags we had emptied yesterday 😂😂😂 but everything fits. Sorta. Y’all—generous does not begin to cover the description of the hundreds of people who have supported this mission to Texas. ❤️❤️❤️ #godblesstexas#quiltsofcompassion#quiltsforharvey#quiltsforthesouth
Sweet Erica is a longarm quilter in north Houston, and drove all the way into downtown on a Saturday evening to bring us 10 quilts to distribute this week. Y’all, #quiltsofcompassion is made up of thousands of people who love others well. It’s such a blessing to get to meet them. ❤️❤️❤️ #charityquilt#quiltsforharvey#quiltsforthesouth
@quiltsofcompassion requested a “traveling to the TEAM” selfie, but we left before daylight and are very awkward. Here we are, in Publix parking lot in GA, hurdling through space toward Texas and the sweet people we will serve as part of the Quilts of Compassion Disaster Response Team. 💗💗💗 (We are visiting D’s parents enroute.) #quiltsofcompassion#qocdisasterresponseteam#quiltsforharvey#quiltsforthesouth
Blocks for another #quiltsforharvey quilt. A total of twenty of these, several are going to need some work to make them smaller or larger. Looking for setting advice. I can sash in black except .... none of the blacks I have matches. Maybe that won't be so obvious once all is said and done??? Or should I find another Amish type color and use that? I know some points are going to be cut off; will that be less obvious if I use black? Should I put them on point with alternating squares of another color? Or of black?
Please, give me your opinion on any or all of the above. The 20 blocks each finish at about 9 1/2". Set directly, it would finish at about 38x48, and I'd like it to be larger. @mel_is_a_swapaholic, advice??
One top put together for #quiltsforharvey . Very bad lighting in this photo; will try to get a better one tomorrow.
I decided to set these blocks in point, added oversized setting triangles to make it easier to square up after quilting. Finished size is about 62x62.
Now to settle on a backing and get it to @linda_paints_ who has volunteered (with minimal coercion) to quilt this and one more.
@mel_is_a_swapaholic how does it look? #quiltsforharvey#workingmystashoff
This is a gift for a coworker who lost everything during Harvey when her apartment flooded after the reservoir releases. It's a quilt top I had completed a while back, and I got my long-armer friend to quilt it for me. The pattern is Scrappy Courthouse Steps by Amy Smart of @diaryofaquilter in the book Scraps, Inc. And the back and binding is a fabulous print from @alexiamarcelleabegg in her Hatbox line for #cottonandsteel that I just happened to have in my stash! Also, the label says, "Count your rainbows, not your thunderstorms." #harveyrelief#quiltsforharvey#scrapsinc#quilting
There is a step between “piece all blocks” and “pack up to send to the quilter.” It’s called “take a photo” but I forgot that step today. (I was distracted by the George Springer home run #houstonastros !!)This is a #quiltsforharvey project. Sending love to Houston. #houstonstrong .
I have never ripped out so many stitches as I have with this quilt for Harvey hurricane victims. Some were not mine and so many are mine. Shouldn't quilt when you are tired!!! But I will prevail. #quiltsforharvey @mel_is_a_swapaholic #hurricaneharvey
Chris B. from Raleigh, NC, stopped by the Studio to drop off 4 quilts to be donated to hurricane victims. From baby-size to large lap size, we know her generous donation will bring smiles to the faces of the recipients.
UPDATE! Thanks to everyone who has volunteered backing! We are close to having what we need. I've also learned that the #quiltsforharvey project has some extra red and blue backing they can share with us, BUT they're in need of a "trade" of some pastel colored solid backings to go with several of the tops they have. If you've got or could order extra pastel or white backing, could you reach out to @mel_is_a_swapaholic? #heartsforussfitzgerald#heartsforussjohnsmccain
Went to Aransas Pass this weekend and Rockport to help with disaster relief after Hurricane Harvey. Not getting as much attention as Houston. Little towns that I have visited many times. Loved seeing Texans come together to help out fellow Texans. These few pics don't cover it all. Now back to working on quilts for @mel_is_a_swapaholic send quilts y'all. So much devastation. Praying for Florida too. #quiltsforharvey
All bound and ready to go to #thelinusconnection#quiltsforharvey . I made one quilt top and a pieced back and sent it off to @stephkucera and she ended up providing extra backing and batting to make two quilts. She quilted them both and sent them back to me for binding. How sweet and generous was that? Love this IG community. #quiltersofinstagram Be sure to scroll to see both quilts. Along with these two quilts, I will be sending a few others from my collection. Sending comfort your way Texas.

On Saturday, September 16, 2017, 180 MORE blankets were collected for delivery.
These blankets have come from 29 states and 1 Canadian province.
We've received blankets from a Project Linus group in Illinois, a 10-year-old girl, a Girl Scout Troop in North Carolina, Quilt Guilds across the country and the list goes on and on!
