*****POTENTIAL SPOILERS***** Marvel finally gets a crack at one of the tentploes of their comic universe and how was it......I had such a blast watching this film!! The film is essentially Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 all wrapped in the marvel universe and it never feels lazy or contrived, it has a freshness and warmth that really took me back.
Tom holland impressed me in civil war, here he is spiderman! He really gets moments to show his range as an actor and one moment in particular proves this spiderman has legs. Michael Keaton as the vulture brings his A game to this film and shows us that marvel villains can be complex and really push our heroes to be the best they can be, with him I really felt there was always a danger and no one could walk away from this film. The rest of the cast is brilliant and really add to the film. The only thing I really had a problem with was the character of Liz I really felt she didn’t have an arc and her chemistry with Peter was sorely lacking and I would have rather the focus been on michelle as she was definitely a more interesting character.
The Easter eggs were brilliant and were a nice touch to the film. The major thing that surprised was me was the story. It had room to breathe, let characters have moments and then supplemented with some very cool action that always feels connected to the heart of the story. On the action I will say it’s nice to not have the whole world in peril and what the writers do so well is make the action close to home for peter and that’s what a great film does! Is make the stakes personal.
Overall I can’t rate this highly enough. Phase 3 of marvel has been nothing short of a refreshing rebrand for the company and we are getting more personal films that really dig deep into the rich history of these iconic characters I’m so pumped to see where spiderman goes and the rest of the mcu with the upcoming Avengers film and I honestly can’t wait to see what happens there and beyond. I hope that the sequel has this much care attention paid to it #spidermanhomecoming#marvel#disney#sony#review#comicbook#tomholland#marisatomei#robertdowneyjr#michaelkeaton#bluray
"What does a scanner see? Into the head? Down into the heart? Does it see into me? Into us? Clearly or darkly? I hope it sees clearly because I can't any longer see into myself. I see only murk. I hope for everyone's sake the scanners do better, because if the scanner sees only darkly the way I do, then I'm cursed and cursed again." (A Scanner Darkly, 2006)
