I wish that I could say that I love being a mum all the time! Days like today definitely felt far from it! But luckily I have learned to accept that some days are shit but that does not define me as person or even as a mum! I have learned that I have choices! I can choose to be in alignment with myself at the end of the day! I can choose to look after myself and each day is different sometimes is yoga and some days a hot bath with essential oils and my favourite soulful podcast and a glass of moscato! Spending time in nature covers so many areas of self care and is a super important part of maintaining balance if youre well and any healing process too. Making time to spend time in nature EVERY DAY was a game changer in my life when I needed to heal. I was at the time running my health spa and ironically struggling with my health, and one of the holistic therapists I was seeing asked me how long I spent outside and I was shocked to say practically never. A short walk from my car to my work place, a few min to go grab a coffee to "stay awake" and get through my busy day. I didn't have time to indulge in nature did I? Turns out I didn't have time not to. I was approaching burn out fast. I made a choice then that I needed to get outside more. I got a dog, prioritised walks and surprising things happened. The trees started to whisper to me, and I listened. ALL my priorities changed and my healing process began. Somehow I ended moving to Devon for a slower life. I still very much believe in holistic therapies and can't underestimate the power of healing the space they hold. But I also believe now that being in nature is a real must too. This picture is taken just minutes from the city centre and feels like an enchanted haven. If you don't have time to step out for long, start off small. I personally been slacking on my stretching and I know that one of the key ways to achieve LEAN muscles is to stretch them everyday. Today I decided I will do a thorough full body stretch on my off days, and a stretch before and after all my workouts. This photo is a dancers "six o'clock" pose. Last night I woke up at 2am and struggled to get back to sleep! I couldn't stop thinking about self care (😂, yes this happens frequently when things are pressing on my mind. I need to learn to switch off). Self care has become incredibly popular over recent years and has become widely practiced. I often see a whole bunch of inspirational quotes (I'm one who post these too) and stories of various people engaging in, promoting and reminding others to engage in self care.
Self care as I know it and you may too, often includes face masks, beauty regimes, baths, regular manicures, massages, essential oils, yoga and so forth. Don't get me wrong, I think this is awesome and I love that we are shamelessly prioritizing ourselves.
Self care is in essence doing things that replenish our, emotional, physical and mental being. And like most things a very individual specific experience. All of which is incredibly important to honour.
However, a lot of what I see displayed within the self care conversation often involves highly glamorized regimes, readily available resources, time, easy accessibility and disposable incomes - which in reality a lot of people don't have access to.
I get concerned that this demonstration of self care can in fact cause reverse effects - creating an almost "hustle" like attitude when it comes to factoring in time to prioritize ourselves. Or sending ourselves broke trying to attain a level of self care that is completely outside of our means. Or guilt associated with the fact that our self care doesn't look like others. I get concerned that there's not enough emphasis placed on the individual nature of self care or how our access to such things effects our ability to engage in self care.
So, with all of that in mind, I just want to remind you that self care doesn't have to be fancy or glamorous and if you don't have time to prioritize yourself every single day - because your working hard physically, mentally and emotionally to just stay afloat. The modern world's obsession with happy faces and perfect frames is so exhausting. We are supposed to be happy all the time - smiling, giggling, laughing, cheerful. As if despair is unnatural. As if sadness is uncommon. As if panic and anxiety are unreal.
The so-called negative emotions are probably as important as the positive ones, if not more. No success ever bred out of comfort - suffering ultimately leads to success, and that is the key to persistence. Just accepting, and working around it is liberating.
Don't let your inner fire die because your pain makes people uncomfortable. Water dripping on rock will wither it away, only if you recognise the rock and the water. They are both within you.

I work hard at staying positive. I have tricks. But even so, like many people, I find the dark months heavy sometimes. Sometimes it takes a lot, and striking the balance between being gentle with myself and not letting myself cave into immobility can be tricky. It is a worthwhile fight all the same. I got boil on my eye so decided to show you just half my face. Went to #souqwaqif today! It's so nice go walk there early during the day. Cool and crisp weather. And so many pigeons!! I was quite worried they would poop on me 😓
I went to buy some dried roses. I read somewhere that steaming your face with rose petals 🌹 is beneficial for your skin. Now it's to easy to get fresh rose petals so the best alternative is dried rose. In souq waqif we get whole dried rose buds, so I bought a bit to try it out.
