Edit: Maybe a Texas Blind Snake? Idk, but I let this little visitor stay a bit and be on their way. :) I do my best to let creatures stay around. Eat those bugs around my eggplants and squash please!
This lovely soul was resting next to me during mediation. Wasn't there when I started, but was there when I opened my eyes. I wonder, @tippybelladonna you have a snake (I think). Do you know what this little cutie is? #texassnakes#snake#lovelyvisitor#aintitcute#nospine#bhujangasanagoals
Gulf Salt Marsh Snake - Nerodia clarkii
The gulf salt marsh snake grows to a length of 15 to 30 inches (38 to 76 cm). Distinguishing characteristics include two longitudinal tan or yellow stripes on each side of the body, making up the dorsal (top) pattern of the snake. It has a reddish-brown or grayish-black ventral (bottom) color with one to three rows of large pale spots along the center of the belly. This snake is flat headed.
Because coastal wetlands are continuously being drained, filled, developed and contaminated, gulf salt marsh snakes run a serious risk of becoming threatened or endangered due to habitat loss. They are difficult to find, and we know relatively little about gulf salt marsh snakes. These snakes are often killed, along with other water snakes, out of fear of cottonmouths (tpwd) #gulfsaltmarshsnake#nerodia#serpentes#colubridae#semiaquatic#nonvenomous#colubrid#snake#texassnakes#texaswildlife#neature#texaswildlifeandscience#reptile#gulfcoast#texascityprairiepreserve
We had a visitor in our garage today. He left and went back to his hole, which is apparently just around the corner against the wall next to a garden bed. way too close for comfort. Trying to ID him. #texas#texassnakes#snakesoftexas#texasgarden
Ended the walk tonight with a fun four foot friend that was hunting a bird, I in turn scared off the bird. Not today my friend. I am curious about the type, he was yellow on his belly with a black pattern in top and was really shiny. Also timid. He froze until he thought I left (I stood 15 feet away) #snakes#whatisit#texassummer#texassnakes#identifysnake#trails
