We are about to share the correct answer to this week’s challenge! Are you ready? The herb we’re featuring this week is aloe vera commonly grown as an indoor plant. Because it’s a semitropical succulent, growing it outdoors isn’t a good idea unless the temperature in your area never goes below freezing. Most of us are familiar with aloe vera. Aloe has a long history of use in health products. Aloe’s clear gel is used for burns and other skin problems, and its yellow latex is used as a laxative. However, there’s not enough scientific evidence to show whether the herb is helpful for most of the purposes for which people use it.

Did you see this week’s challenge? Fans of folk rock music will recognize this week’s featured herb as #sage, one of the four named in a Simon and Garfunkel song, along with #parsley, #rosemary, and #thyme. Like #peppermint, sage was used by ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks. The dried form of sage is burned in Native American rituals to promote healing, wisdom, protection, and longevity. Sage has a long history of use for health purposes, but little research has been done on it, and science has not shown it to be helpful for any health condition. Now that’s interesting trivia for the dinner table! For more information about sage – click the link in our profile. #TheHerbProject

Tempo de preparo: Rápido
Facilidade de preparo: Fácil
Rendimento: 2 porções

Ingredientes:

Junte a maionese, a cebolinha desidratada a mostarda e misture bem.

Looking for the answer to this week’s challenge? We are featuring peppermint this week! Did you know that peppermint is mentioned in records from ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt? So what do we know about peppermint? It can be found in candies and foods (most likely, you will be eating peppermint-flavored treats this holiday season!). Peppermint is also used in soaps and cosmetics to create a pleasant fragrance. However, what you might not know is that a small amount of research has been conducted on peppermint oil, primarily focusing on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Results from several studies indicate that peppermint oil in enteric-coated capsules (to avoid heartburn) may improve IBS symptoms. For more information about peppermint – click the link in our profile.

One of the herbs shown in this picture is used to flavor candies and other foods and to create a pleasant fragrance in soaps and cosmetics. Results from several studies indicate that the essential oil from this herb in enteric-coated capsules, may improve symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Do you know which herb it is? Tell us in the comments. Stay tuned to find out the correct answer on Friday! #TheHerbProject  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #greenthumb  #garden  #gardening  #greenliving  #greens  #indoorplants  #plantsofinstagram  #fallprojects  #plantstagram  #gardenlove  #urbanjungle  #urbangardening  #herbgarden  #medicinalherbs  #wellness  #mindfulness  #publichealth  #NIH  #NCCIH
Thanks to @Cynthy309 for her submission to our herb project! She sent us this photo of “Borscht soup on a cold November night made with fresh beets, onions, carrots, parsnips, celery. Sweet naturally, #applecidervinegar added at end.” Curious about the fresh herb on top? It’s lovage, she explains. And the soup is seasoned with caraway, celery, and dill seed. Want to participate in #TheHerbProject? Send us a photo of a favorite herb-filled dish and share the recipe with us in the caption and/or share a photo of your herb garden with us! Tag us in the photo and use the hashtag #TheHerbProject. Visit the link in our profile for full rules and guidelines.
Also, a #FunFact—did you know that the National Library of Medicine has an herb garden? One of the herbs in their garden is lovage. Visit the link in our profile to learn more about their garden.

Thank you for participating in this week’s challenge! Our herb of the week shares its name with a color. Curious to find out which herb it is? It’s lavender! A common herb that most of us are familiar with, #lavender is often used in aromatherapy. But did you know #tea can also be made from its leaves? What’s more—lavender oil is also used for massage and in baths. How much do we know about this herb? Many studies have investigated lavender’s effectiveness for a number of conditions, such as pain, anxiety, stress, and overall well-being, but results are still inconclusive.

Some see a weed. I see cheese.
Not much is green in my backyard this time of year, but I did run into this vigorous beauty. The root of the common mallow can be used to separate curds and whey when making cheese. How cool is that?! .

Not only is Hibiscus beautiful, but it also has medicinal properties. Traditionally, it has been used to soothe a dry cough. Recent studies have shown the tea to be as effective at lowering blood pressure as the prescription drug Captopril. There is even some evidence that it may lower cholesterol. Enjoy a glass of Hibiscus tea tonight!

• Especias: canela, y nuez moscada molida
¡Salud! ☕

Hey ladies! Random tidbit: Did you know that taking #cinnamon (in the range of 2g) on the days of heavy menstruation can significantly slow the flow? You'll thank me next time your monthly visitor comes when you have a day at the beach planned.

As always, rule out any #medical conditions before routinely using #alternative treatments. Please note that cinnamon also contains coumarin, a blood thinner.

PS Make sure you take it in CAPSULE form, or you will be unintentionally re-creating the #cinnamonchallenge 😬
