Some flowers and vases are as classic and timely as Grace Kelly's elegant style. No matter what the color of the year is, or the latest trend in containers, one can never go wrong with a stately white ceramic urn . This tulip shaped one is overflowing with yellow ranunculus, black privet berries, delightfully fragrant acacia (it's in the mimosa family and is sadly only available this time of year), green lisianthus, white roses, and lilies. Yes...definitely shades of the always classy Miss Kelly👠#fineartflowers#elegant#weddingflorist
Psst...Here's a sneak peek of what we have coming up this Spring from our photo shoot last week. Thanks to @TheStatler for letting us use their gorgeous hotel as a backdrop to transport us to warmer weather!
In the field of classical menswear there are some myths that, although containing inaccurate informations, still persist and continue to live. One of these is represented by the belief that the introduction of midnight blue as a fabric color for the evening tail coats and dinner suits has been due, in the ‘30s of the last century, to the Prince of Wales Edward, future king Edward VIII and then Duke of Windsor(1894-1972). The enclosed fashion sketch, published in 1913 in the USA on the Vanity Fair Magazine ,shows a series of dinner and evening tail suits that have different styles and are realized not only in black but also in midnight blue fabrics. The double breasted dinner suit with notched lapels (the second from the left looking at the image) and the tail suit ( the last on the right) are in fact in a midnight blue tonality and both have the lapels and the sleeve cuffs faced with dark blue silk. Thus , this image demonstrates that midnight blue was already present and utilized as color variant for formal and semi formal evening coats before the ‘30s , the years in which the Duke of Windsor made this choice popular. At the same time it tells us that the combination blue fabric/ blue facing silk was the primigenial pairing and that only in the subsequent years black facing silk started to be utilized also for midnight blue evening coats. Interestingly, as stated on the official Henry Poole’s website about the history of the dinner jacket , the prototypical dinner coat ordered in 1865 by the Prince of Wales and future King Edward VII, was a short celestial blue evening coat to be worn at informal dinners at Sandringham. Let’ s then remember that the blue is not a mere variant of the black , but one of the original colors utilized for the evening coats that the tradition has given us and that we are still using today.
