Advent, Day 8 // Isaiah 40:28-31
28 "Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
and strengthens the powerless.
30 Even youths will faint and be weary,
and the young will fall exhausted;
31 but those who wait for the Lord
shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint."
Is anyone else hopelessly awaiting the "feeling" of Christmas? You know what I mean... that jolly, everything-is-okay-and-beautiful feeling that Hallmark shows us year after year. That peaceful, blissful, slow-down hum of the Holiday Season? Where it's warm and cozy even in the busy?
I never realized it before, but repeatedly, I find myself saying and thinking - "I just don't feel like it's the Christmas season yet," as I compare my "now" with the fantasized words above. And when this thought comes, I actually find myself believing that I had felt "that" before. But after I pause...I realize...those emotions and expectations are not as realistic as I paint them in my head. And when stuck in them, I end up playing a destructive game of comparison.
But the Christmas season is not about jolly, everything-is-okay. It's a story of a people who were weary and faint, being given a baby to hope in. To believe in. To wait upon. It's not a season of bliss, it's a season of dedicated praise. A Season of intentionally seeing Jesus as more valuable than the world paints Him, more realistic than Hallmark, and more powerful than any warm and cozy that we dream up.
Today, let us pause and think of our Savior. Let us wait upon Him - not the emotional high that we deem as normal and necessary. For He is our source of comfort and peace. He is the giver of strength this Holiday Season. #Advent2017#declareglory
Sure life can throw some heavy blows. It ain’t all roses all of the time. If it was, we’d forget to smell them - and forget to notice their beauty. Their velvety hypnotic scent would become our norm...
So, if life drops you down from time to time, perhaps there’s something you’re meant to pick up while you’re on the ground.. something you can take with you, next time you climb a mountain. Stop resisting and start paying attention, to the moment - the way the sun hits your skin, the way the wind tousles your hair, the scent in your nostrils, the earth beneath your feet.
