Sort of a hybrid vetween a free hand portrait (again no tracing) and cartoonish version of the 40th President of the U.S. Ronald Reagan. Initially, I was going to do Mandela or JFK, however those figures are universally renowned and have been done to death in terms of art work. I decided to go against the grain and draw Ronald Reagan in recognition of the effect he had in elevating American conservatism on the grandstage after 30 years of New Deal politics and the lasting influence he has on today's politicians.
In addition, I was attempting to go for a hyper realistic portrait. As I kept drawing however, certain imperfections arose with response to drawing hidden wrinkles and getting the eyes in proportion with the rest of the face. As this drawing progressed, I decided to mildly embrace some of the cartoonish aspects of the drawing to flush out the face and make it more complete. I think given some of the difficulties I had in making it hyper realistic, I settled for a nice middle ground.
Also, I am not making a political endorsement or statement with this drawing. It is simply a drawing. Not a political screed.
