I’ve been told that I’m cold; felt better off alone. I hold onto things a bit too long. My hands were tied before I even tried. I still don’t know what I’m trying to find. I try to change, time and time again. I lost so many times I can’t remember all of them. I came to grips, turned my failures into friends, but there’s just some fights I’ll never win.

****warning long post****
I was talking with a friend the other day about goals. She asked me what should her ideal weight be? She had googled it and found varying numbers. I told her it depends. Everyone is different. The CDC puts out ranges for BMI (body mass index). BUT it’s just one tool. The healthy weight ranges don't take into account body types. They do note it on another page if you keep looking. 🤔
Now I know I'm not the norm, but I believe @crossfit is changing what normal looks like. Take me for example, I am a 37 years old, 5'7" and hover around 155lbs in the morning. According to CDC I am 0.6 away from being considered overweight for my height. My weight puts me at a BMI of 24.3 which falls on the very high end of the normal range of 18.5-24.9. CDC says my normal weight range is 118-159 pounds. 4 lbs would make me "overweight". That's a chipotle steak bowl! 😲
CDC does say "BMI can be used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems but it is not diagnostic of the body fatness or health of an individual." If someone was to just look at my numbers on paper they would think that I'm overweight. It's been awhile since I've had my bf tested but I'd say I'm around 19%. It is just one tool, but most of time BMI is what the doctors or health insurance will use just that number to determine your health. Which I think is bullshit.
To get a better idea of where you are I suggest getting your body fat measurements as well. The most accurate is a DEXA scan but few people have access to that. Some areas have BodPods or water displacement test. Other ways are with bioelectrial impedance tests or using calipers, both have some level of error but will get you within 1-4% margin of error. Use any of these tools as a starting point. Go off of how you feel and not necessarily what the book says you should be. #rifenutrition#crossfitrife#precisionnutrition#crossfitmom#momswholift#notaverage#justbebetter#fitmom#virginiabeach
