Have you read Part One of Layla Saad's open letter, 'I need to talk to spiritual white women about white supremacy'? After taking a couple of days to digest her words, I want to share a short section as this part, in particular, hit me right between the eyes. ✨
"... I’ve seen white women entrepreneurs who devote themselves to doing deep spiritual work for themselves and their clients, and yet remain absolutely silent on anything to do with politics and justice. Women who believe that the best thing they can do is just focus on being a good and loving person, and serving their (largely white) audience and sending love and light instead of actually speaking up." ✨
If you want to read Part 1 in its entirety, you can find it over at @wildmysticwoman's bio.) ✨
I rarely post about political issues on online. Largely down to feeling under-qualified, but also because I wonder how much impact a post on Instagram can really have. I know that may be cynical and not necessarily true, but I have a love/ hate relationship w/ social media... I get glimpses of how powerful it can be, but all too often I see it as a gigantic distraction - one that's keeping a lot of us from taking meaningful action in real life. ✨
However. I STRONGLY dislike the idea that by staying silent, I'm failing to speak up and stand against this barbaric behaviour. And if that is in any way my white privilege, then you can bet I'll be posting about politics more often. Remaining silent after reading Layla's letter feels plain wrong.
So thank you for making me accountable, Layla. I stand against what is happening on Instagram, and I commit to doing whatever I can to stand against it in the real world - away from my iPhone - too. ✨
Nod to @lucysheridan, whose FB post originally brought my attention to this letter. ✨

James 3:13," Do you want to be counted as wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here's what you do. Live well, live wisely, live family. It's the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts. Mean-spirited ambition is isnt wisdom. Boasting that you are wise isn't wisdom. Twisting the truth to make yourself sound wise isn't wisdom. Is the furthest thing from wisdom- it's animal cunning, devilish, and conniving. When are we are trying to look better than others or get the better of others, things fall apart and everyone ends up at the others throats. Real wisdom, God's wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It's a gentle and reasonable, or flowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced..."
🌴Originally opened on January 25, 1953, the Coco Palms Resort had 24 rooms, two guests and four employees. Under the management of Grace Guslander, the Resort grew to contain 416 rooms by the mid-1970s. However, by 1984, the number of rooms had been reduced to 393. Guslander was well known for her ability to embellish and create myths, stories and facts surrounding her resort. Under her expanded interpretation of the Hawaiian practice of "akua", or replenishment, many noteworthy people took part in the planting of new coconut trees in akua ceremonies to replenish the grove.
Some of these included Hawaiian Olympic swimming champion Duke Kahanamoku and the Prince and Princess of Japan. These and many other trees are marked throughout the property with name and dated plaques. Grace helped foster the belief that the loko iʻa (fish ponds) on Coco Palms were once the "Royal" fish ponds of the Kauai Rulers.🐟 The Wailuā area in which the property is located is culturally, spiritually and historically significant. The property is significant with many on Kauaʻi because it is in very close proximity to three of the most important historical heiau on Kauaʻi.
The ancestral home of Kauaʻi's aliʻi (royalty) since the 13th century, the area encompassing the Coco Palms Resort was the home of Kauaʻi's last reigning queen, Queen Deborah Kapule, in the mid-19th century. "By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is bitterest." Confucius #quote 🤔 || °
⚄FIVE THINGS FRIDAY⚄
1) Five of Cups
Surprisingly, disappointment and I have a love-hate-relationship :) Whenever I've admitted defeat, things turned around and got so much better. I have come to love this release and moving from shattered dreams to new chapters.
2) Strength reversed
I don't feel like I'm a "strong woman", as in "easily standing her ground". In fact, I'm always learning how to defend what is important for my life, even when I need to get loud and uncomfortable. It's not in my nature to rock the boat, and I'm hesitant to do it with folks who don't know me (worried a little about my reputation, you know). But it's important to be a tornado sometimes. I try to learn from people who are!
3) Six of Swords reversed
India, Bali, Peruvian jungles, geysers in Iceland or sukhs in Marrakesh... they don't call me. 🙊 I feel a little uncool for my lack of wanderlust. However, I love to travel into the seemingly known: hiding places in my country, my lover's mind, the depths of the subconscious, the forgotten gems in my library.
4) Ace of Pentacles
Groundedness, to me, comes through sincere and focused effort. It has little to do with corny fantasies about the beauty of mother Gaia, or new-age invocations of my roots and earth energy. 😊 Groundedness is doing my work and actually expecting it to be a hustle, and doing it even when no one's watching. I'm grounded when I'm steady, and when I'm steady I know I'm planting seeds of wealth.
5) Eight of Wands
To find the right word is like finding the right dress for a thought or a feeling. I love finding perfect clothes for invisible things! Dressing up a thought-flow elegantly and succinctly is one of my favourite parts of teaching.
