This is a Community Strong Workout - Thanksgiving Edition! Some of you have asked me if I was planning to host a workout on Thanksgiving Day so here we go! This will be different from my park workouts - we will be rucking instead! There's just something about putting on a heavy backpack and walking a trail. That's exactly what we will be doing Thanksgiving morning and it will all be to benefit The Rock at Noon Day, a homeless day shelter in Albuquerque that provides meals to homeless adults and kids!
1️⃣What is rucking? Well, this article does a really good job of explaining it: http://www.artofmanliness.com/2017/10/25/the-benefits-of-rucking/, but it's simply walking while carrying a heavy backpack.
2️⃣How can I participate? You will need to bring your own backpack and have it filled with donations for The Rock at Noon Day. They are in need of canned goods like canned soup and other pantry items, socks, underwear, and new or gently used towels. Fill up your pack with this stuff so you have some weight in your bag, especially if you want this to be a challenge! You can also partner up for the ruck and have one backpack between the two of you and share the load throughout the course.
3️⃣What can I expect for this rucking experience? As always, I leave it up to each individual on how hard they want to make their workout. I will be providing a "course map" with instructions for different fitness levels. There will be stops along the way where you will have to complete a certain exercise before moving on. All in all, this should take no longer than an hour. We will be walking around UNM North Golf course. Start time 8:30am.
4️⃣What else? This is a free event other than bringing your donations. Since this not an official race or event, there will be no restroom facilities or water stations. You are responsible for bringing your own water and provisions, and taking care of your own restroom needs. You are also participating in this at your own risk and are assuming risk of injury if you participate. This is basically a casual gathering of fitness enthusiasts who like to challenge themselves Thanksgiving morning before stuffing their faces later in the day! ⬇️
