I have a silent killer. Ive been fighting a battle for a year now in an extreme way. I had no clue what it was until recently. 
My silent killer shows you on the outside that everything looks normal, while inside it is destroying my mind, my organs, my hormones, my emotions, and its trying to take me out. 
Ive been keeping hidden, keeping silent, trying to fight this battle alone. Until I realized....there are thousands of women out there that dont know how to fight this. There are tons of women out there that are suffering everyday. There are tons of women out there that are going to give up because they feel no one HEARS them.

Im NOT going to let this #silentkiller take me out. Im NOT going to let it keep me from speaking, from mentoring, from moving forward in what GOD has me here to do. IM NOT! 
My first BIG move was continuing to speak at the event in Seattle. I dont look like me at all on the outside right now because of this disease. I also fight everyday against pain, exhaustion, remembering things, and my speech is getting bad. Food bothers me. I cant drink alcohol really, barely. But Im fighting daily. 
I research about 3 hours a night to help myself and others that are faced with this. 
I will use this to help others thru it. I will use this to show others how to advocate for themselves. I will help others see that this disease does NOT define them, its just a season. 
What is your silent killer? How can you see it from a different perspective so it doesn't create negative space in your mind? How can you advocate for yourself and tell doctors NO, or decide they are wrong and find a specialist? Fight for you!!! You KNOW your body best!

Happy Saturday keto fam so my weigh in was unsuccessful and its my fault. I was doing so well all week,  then Wednesday night shortly after posting that "i feel ugly" meme, i went on to licking a whole bag of chips.. Didnt eat them, just licked the seasoning off and believe me the next day the scale jumped 3 pounds! All that water retention. 👎👎👎 so Wednesday morning i was at 164.4 then Thursday was at 167.2!!! Then Friday morning i was at 166.4 and this morning 166.0 sooo thats a 0.2 gain from last weeks weigh in. GUYS, CHEATING AND BINGING IS SO NOT WORTH IT. Dont do it, it hurts, instant regret. It sucks. Y'all!!!! does it feel so so  exhaustingly GOOD to get some weight training back into my schedule !!!!! I 💘💘💘 my Turbo Kick cardio kickboxing and my bodyweight PiYo... but wowweeee was my body craving some extra sculpting and tonight my legs were getting it !!!!! 😜😜😜 so grateful for the variety of workouts at my fingertips 😍

I know what youre thinking... "but Angel, dont you teach fitness and get your workout that way?" ...errrr....No.  When im in the class... its all about my class participants and helping them push for their best selves.  When I'm in my office... it is about pushing to become the best version of me. .
🔊🎵 No counting or cueing ahead of the music.  Just me and my trainer on the screen... giving me instructions and motivation.  We all have a WAY TO get in our zone and do the work.  This is mine.  This is me getting my workout done.💯🎯

Side note...I used to be one of those mamas kinda nervous about lifting weights... what about you??.🏋 ...i used to wonder if I'd hurt my lower back or knees or get bulky and less feminine 💃💋👗. .
Come on... I know it's not just me, right??! .
✋😊Now I realize how I wish I would've picked them up sooner!!!! It feels like  FOREVER to grow new lean muscle and wait for all the results to show...but it is soooo worth the wait!  Be patient and dont be afraid to lift em, mamas. 👊💪

Tonight's workout was Day 5 of my newest at home program... and I am in looove!  I have the perfect combo of hard-core weight training AND THOSE "STRAPPY" BOOTY MOVES !! .

I love them to pieces, but it’s hard growing up with carb eating, huge plate servings, and being told to clean your plate. So so funny!  And NOT what I expected! .

My previous cat Feril would always kind of get under my feet and walk through while in plank and want to love up on me purring while I was working out LOL... but hashtag is completely different!! 😾😾😾😾He stays in the peripheral of the room, hiding under chairs (and sometimes the hallway) and just stares!! .

Best day ever! This will go a few steps above and beyond 23 and me. So thankful right now as this will pinpoint the cause of bloating after eating, crazy weight gain, and inability to sleep that have all plagued me since birth. Still thinking GIP Cushing’s is the cause but interested to get conclusive proof. CAH? Other adrenal issues? Having this since I was born means there is for sure a genetic component. I think everybody can see them by the fact that I puff up from one day to the next, but in reality you can’t. I’ve been fortunate to have a good week. I hustled to make up service from being out with a severe stomach plague last week 🤢and got in some good workouts this week.....but this afternoon it’s just not happening. I stretched a little too thin and my body couldn’t keep up. The worst is that I feel like I SHOULD be able to keep up. So I came up here to workout and it just isn’t happening. 
These problems don’t get fixed in a week or even month....it may take a couple of years. But I run into ladies every week with the same symptoms and same issues who are simply relieved to find they are not alone. 
For myself, I’m focusing on constantly caring for my #metabolism And part of that is watching my #stress And being mindful of #recovery 
So for today I will Work on #mobility And give myself some grace 💪🏽though that’s the hardest thing I do here lately

We are DOWN TO THE LAST PROTEINS in the house- and it is meal time. I could have chosen to eat crappy or eat carbs (what my brain said would be easier LOL) instead but there is ALWAYS a healthier option even with less variety and my timed nutrition meal plan calls for protein right now!

So here's what we had and what I chose to whip up!  Fried eggs topped with cayenne and chili powder.  Then some tuna and cabbage with hot sauce. 
ℹit doesn't have to all "go together" to feed and fuel my body well.  It doesn't have to be gourmet or convenient for me to stick to my plan. 🆗

Now don’t read this wrong. This is from a functional physiological standpoint. This is THE reason we wake up, the reason #energy starts to be produced, the reason we rise out of bed, are able to regulate blood #sugar, BP and more. Low body temperature in the morning and high pulse – Blood sugar has not been regulated the day prior and glycogen is not being stored in the liver over night to prevent cortisol from kicking in. These people usually wake up between 1-3am.

Usually we see that they wake up with very little energy and as the day goes by, they start to feel better and better – Why you ask? Its because, as they eat food throughout the day, they begin to regulate their blood sugar. This takes a load of the adrenal glands.

Typically they have very high highs and very low lows throughout the day – This has a lot to do with blood sugar, dysglycemia, the foods they eat that do or don’t support them, activity levels, are they exceeding the demands of what their body can handle, energy levels, etc. *
Lastly, we usually see cortisol driven individuals gain #weight above the waist, upper back, breasts, stomach and hips. *
Solution: Eat foods that support adrenal health (aka blood sugar). That means eating digestible metabolic foods in a food frequency that works for your body. Let’s take a minute to talk about STRESS. Stress comes in many forms, primarily as physical, environmental, cognitive / emotional, and pro-social (think empathy). While some stress can be beneficial for the body {like moderate exercise, for example}, too much stress can be detrimental to our bodies and minds. .

Let’s look at the basics 👇👇👇 .

💥Stress directly stimulates the #adrenal glands - a pair of neural and glandular tissue that sits atop each kidney.

💥 Short term stress activates the #sympathetic nervous system - aka the fight or flight response. This response slows digestion, and shunts blood to the extremities and brain. .
💥 Evolutionarily speaking, this response was a means for survival {think being chased by a bear}. However, this response can be activated by any perceive “threat”, such as cars in the oncoming traffic lane, or a big presentation coming up. Our society demands constant activation of the sympathetic nervous system, and therefore overuse of the adrenal glands. .
💥Long term stress also affects our adrenals by stimulating the secretion of #cortisol - the long term stress hormone. Like all corticosteroids, cortisol suppress the immune system, increasing our susceptibility to infection. Since the gut is the primary site of our #immunity, this may give rise to overgrowth if opportunistic pathogens in the gut, such as #Candida albicans. .
💥 Some conditions associated with long term stress include #autoimmune conditions (ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, MS, etc.), #anxiety / #depression, #allergies, emotional exhaustion, and so much more. .

We know that if we don’t change how we live or eat that prolonged elevation of cortisol, caused by chronic #stress, has a MAJOR effect on the liver. The liver is so important as it is not only an organ of #detoxification, but also stores minerals, #glucose….as well as plays a huge role in detoxing estrogen. So in a sense, increased stress leading to an increased stress response in our body leads to “#estrogen dominance” BUT we really don’t have that. Its just an illusion.

Lets break it down in a simplistic way….stress leads to altered liver function leads to the recirculation of estrogen leads to increased level so TBG (#thyroid binding globulin which is a #protein that thyroid hormone is attached to as it is transported through the body) which leads to thyroid being less active or bioavailable which leads to #thyroid hormone being inactive which leads to less #energy being produced within the cell and the end result is more #inflammation.

Solution: Eat #foods that are higher in Vitamin A such as #liver and red meat. Vitamin A is anti-estrogenic. Make sure you are getting enough protein as well, as too little is estrogenic. Eat metabolic foods to take the burden off the liver. Think of 1 thing each day or each week that you are willing to change that you feel is contributing to what you don’t want vs do want.
