Ashuwa is our resident kudu bull here at #CareforWild . He was hand raised by Petronel as a small calf after being orphaned, and was even given a blood transfusion to get him back to health.
He has grown into a beautiful and healthy bull who now roams freely in the veld!

Photo and caption by @petekmuller. The vast plains of Kenya’s Maasai Mara come into view as we descend from the Angama lodge, high on the adjacent hills. At the end of heavy seasonal rains, the Mara is green and lush, attracting large numbers of animals. It’s my first time to stay on the hills above and in so doing, I find myself considering what it must have been like for our distant human ancestors to leave the relative safety of the forests and venture out onto the savanna. While teeming with life and possibility, one can imagine that such landscapes were daunting for early humans, a species that possessed little in the way of competitive skills. We were comparatively slow and weak and lacked claws or large teeth. In those early days as we tested life on the plains, we were squarely in the middle of the food chain. For me—and I suspect many others—visiting the Mara touches something deep and primal within us, connecting us to the human story in ways few things can. Sculpture depicting Africa by American Sculptor, Daniel Chester French, best known for his design of the sculpture of Abraham Lincoln. This is amongst 3 other continental sculptures - Asia (to the far left), Europe and America (Centre) and Africa (to the far right). Only Africa is pictured here, with a female figure - naked, to represent the vast tribes, with arms resting loosely on the head of the Sphinx (to the right) and a lion (to the left). The sleeping figure is symbolic for Africa - a developing nation which first became an emerging nation in the early 1900’s, while the Sphinx represents the sand and heat endured by the African continent and the lion - it’s strength and resources. #Africa#Asleeponthelion#Art#sculptureart#FourContinents#DanielChesterFrench#NYC#Travelgram
