I read once that the same limbic areas of your brain that deal with emotions also process tonality and rhythm. I don't know how factual it is, but it makes sense when you think about the evocative quality music has. Every time I go somewhere new, I make a playlist of music I listened to while I was there. It's fun because each place has it's own unique sound and each song is tied to a specific memory, so going back and listening is like reliving certain moments in time. This one is "Dust In The Wind" by Kansas. I can still feel all the twists and turns of the road back to Reykjavik after that morning of horseback riding in Mosfellsbær. I can remember the ice-cold wind slapping me in the face as I opened the passenger side window to get a shot of this church. As soon as that song comes on, I'm back.
