"Night-life" in the jungles of #Agumbe is quite literal! Most animals are nocturnal, so it's only natural. This urges us to look carefully and stay as silent as possible. 👀
The first night I spent here, we went on a short walk. We spotted a wild boar, heard distinct calls of a brownfish owl and spotted this common vine snake. It is the cutest snake 🐍 I've seen till date. For scale, it is thinner than my little finger.
Stay tuned for more updates from our night walks. 🌌
An early morning shot from the verandah of Doddamane.
We stayed couple of days at this heritage home in Agumbe #rainforest region during our month long travels in Karnataka and Kerala. The 150 year old mansion is built in a traditional open courtyard style to enjoy the monsoon rains and is always open to host travelers and hikers that pass by the village. Grateful to Kasthurakka and her family for being such warm and welcoming hosts and making this 'home away from home' experience so enjoyable. The red-oxide flooring, antique furniture, teak ceiling runners, 'hande neer snaana' and baleyele oota brought back so many fond memories of the house I grew up in.
