The master plan for transforming #AlamoPlaza has provoked a storm of controversy. Last week we heard from two members of the team that developed the plan. This week we’ll hear from two of San Antonio’s most prominent architects, who joined nearly three dozen architects in sending a letter to #CityCouncil strongly objecting to the plan.
Morgan Smith, reporter with the Texas Tribune, joins Rick Casey from Austin to explain the myriad ways to kill a bill as the Texas Legislature enters the last few weeks of the session.
Friday at 8PM on KLRN Public Television.
@willpate and I stopped by @rivardreport offices to say hi and pick up a #fiestamedal for this year.
Also chatted about the #saelections & the #alamoplaza . (Nerd alert: @willpate used to work at the state capitol - in the building, for a representative, & other orgs 🤓) He also wrote this: https://therivardreport.com/satownhall2017-stump-speeches-vs-progressive-leaders/. If you don't already support #rivardreport , you should. It's great local #journalism . #sanews
Dropping a glass box around a historic site...can you get any more literal (or symbolically misguided)?
Keep #SanAntonio 's #AlamoPlaza an accessible #civic space -- contact Mayor Ivy Taylor (email@example.com) or your local city council member and urge a rethink of the current master plan!
Please join us tonight, Tuesday, May 2nd at 6 PM in room 301 of the Convention Center as concerned citizens voicing our opinions on the Alamo Master Plan. While some of the plan shows great foresight, creating the proposed wall will inhibit community connectivity, constrain important cultural space, and diminish the historic integrity of the site. The meeting tonight is the final chance for citizens to encourage the Council to more thoughtfully consider the master plan and its impact on the evocative history of the Alamo and indomitable spirit of all Texans.
You may also help by contacting San Antonio’s Mayor Ivy Taylor (Mayor.IvyTaylor@sanantonio.gov) or your City Council member. Look up your councilor online here (https://www.sanantonio.gov/Council/Find-My-Council-Member). #alamoplaza#satx#dontwallusout
Who says downtown San Antonio by the Alamo is always crowded? Oh wait, it is. There were tourists literally on both edges of this photo, I barely caught it in time, but that's the magic of photography!
