Kombu Broth: Nutrient rich, vegan soup. Kombu is a type of brown algae that's a staple in Japanese cuisine. Cooking with this seaweed can improve the digestibility of many foods, including legumes, thanks to a number of amino acids in kombu. The fiber, prebiotics + unique types of carbs in kombu can help populate the gut with good flora.
Kombu is a mineral powerhouse. It is loaded with iodine & is great for those deficient in this mineral + to speed up metabolism. It is also dense in iron, making it particularly useful for individuals battling anemia.
There are specific cases that should use kombu with caution, however.
Kombu Broth: Serves 2
2 kombu sheets
3 cups water
Juice of half a lemon
1/4 small ginger root, peeled + chopped
1/2 tsp sea salt
Plus veggies of choice
In a medium saucepan, place the kombu sheets & water & leave in fridge for 8-12 hours. Afterwards, add ginger chops, lemon juice & salt to saucepan & bring to boil. Discard kombu. You can add veggies of choice such as squash here. #kombubroth#seavegetables#algae

Have you ever had a *warm* smoothie? I hadn't until a couple of days ago! Turns out, they are incredibly delicious and really good for digestion. My already poor digestion seems to have gotten worse lately, and I read something about how eating cold foods can impair digestion so I decided to start enjoying more warm smoothies (it is nice too because it's getting colder)...also, does anyone find warmer dishes make them feel more full and satisfied than cold ones? // for the recipe for this cozy bowl head on over to my blog, link in description! 😊
I am officially an allergy friendly baker! As of today I will no longer be offering treats that contain wheat flour (gluten). I am so very excited to make the big switch to allergy friendly baking. So many of you have asked me for allergy friendly treats and I am thrilled to be offering those to you!
Many of you know that I have autoimmune issues that do not allow me to consume wheat (my husband always ate the leftover goodies). Even though I could never consume my treats I never had any issues baking them until the last two months. Allergic reactions are no fun friends. In addition to those fun times my daughter was recently diagnosed with the same autoimmune issues and her allergist said we needed to get all the wheat out of our house. 😱 So rather than making a fuss I'm turning lemons into lemonade and making it work for everyone.
Health and wellness is one of my biggest passions and I cannot wait to provide so many of you who share very similar stories as my family some yummy treats everyone can enjoy. ❤️ #mintedmason#treatmaker#allergenfriendly#eventplanner#cookies#cakes#cupcakes#treats#lexingtonkentucky#shoplocal
Be.[ROOT] soufflé is what I'm calling it 😋
This root vegetable soufflé was simply amazing so I decided to share the recipe with you 🕺🏻
The spices give it a sweet flavour and made me excited to experiment with more Autumn flavours 🍂
You could serve it as a side with any meal 🍽
500g any root vegetable (I used 450g carrots and 50g sweet potatoes for some sweetness)
25g palm shortening or ghee
1 small onion
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tbsp coconut flour (I used @biopret )
Salt and pepper
Preheat oven to 180
Boil the root vegetables in water until tender then remove from water and add to a blender with the shortening, onion, cinnamon, nutmeg and coconut flour. Pulse until smooth.
Season with salt and pepper until satisfied with the taste and pulse again.
Let cool then add the egg and pulse again to combine.
Transfer to an ovenproof dish and bake for 35-40 mins or until the top starts browning and becomes slightly firm.
Serve hot. 🔥

Recipe: Pork Ragù al @maialino_nyc, #allergenfriendly#Sponsored @fairwaymarket
@samsifton, my food writing crush @nytfood recreated this delightful dish from @maialino_nyc that I’ve had many times.
I’ve never made bone-in pork shoulder, I do loved a braised meat dish and I trust Sam, so I thought I’d try this home version. Especially with October’s temperatures up and down here in the Northeast, this seemed like the perfect way to bring in fall flavors: a slow and low braised meat that is spoonable when cooked, gently scented with onion and fennel, finished with a broth-y sauce that’s been further enriched with the lightness of butter, lemon and a hit of peppery arugula. It was heavenly as I remembered it from Maialino, and made in my home, allergen-free for me and for you!
Oh yeah, my guests swooned for this dish, like eating the brothy scraps from the pot swooning.

Healthy school lunch made for the day! For a snack we have pineapple and roasted chickpeas and for lunch antibiotic and hormone free roasted turkey, gluten free organic crackers, organic, raw cheese, organic cucumber, red pepper and celery and medjool dates. Although my son has a dairy sensitivity, he is able to tolerate organic, raw cheese. No added sugar and no processed foods here! And this lunch was super easy to make. I whipped it up in under 10 minutes. The chickpeas for snack will provide lots of fibre and protein and are excellent at stabilizing blood sugar. He also has some protein and fat in his lunch from the turkey and cheese. #healthyschoollunch#wholefoodslunch#balancedbloodsugar#allergenfriendly
