Birmingham, Alabama South Precinct police officers responded to a welfare check in a Birmingham apartment complex back in September 2016 at night after neighbors heard children crying inside.
When they arrived they discovered a 30-year-old man dead on the kitchen floor and a 35-year-old woman unresponsive on the couch. Both of them overdosed on unspecified drugs, leaving four children, ages 7, 3, 2, and 1-month, alone and frightened.
Rescuers were able to revive the mother with Narcan and she was taken to the hospital. Officer Michelle Burton was one of the responding officers that night, and she knew it was her duty to comfort the children. So she called her husband, Jefferson County Sgt. Brian Burton, and told him she would be home late because the children needed her.
She spent the rest of the night taking care of the babies. She got home at 4 in morning the next day.

"Empathy and Humanity for All"
In the wake of the controversy surrounding the shooting death of Justine Ruszczyk by Officer Mohammad Noor, I'm left to ponder the similarities, as well as the differences, in cases like these. It's sad to say that police killings of unarmed citizens in America are far from uncommon. It's also uncommon for the officer accused in said offense to publish an apology to the family and friends of their victim, as Officer Noor has done. What is common is the demonizing of the victims in order for the taste of murder to sit well with us while we sleep soundly at night. Still, as unsettling as these facts may be, I would like to understand why the same outrage and disbelief aren't present for ALL unarmed victims taken at the hands of rogue police officers. Whether trigger-happy cops looking to escalate situations, or rookie officers with little to no training for real-world situations in the field, there must be accountability for their actions. Most importantly their punishment should fit the crime. No one officer should bear the blame for this corrupt system. With no video of what happened, and only the sworn account of the other officer present, why isn't Officer Noor being afforded the same treatment as his "brothers in blue?" Thoughts on Today's Verse...
In the context of this passage, God reminds his people that they are precious to him. He formed them and redeemed them. He is not about to abandon them. No matter what challenges or difficulties they face, he will be with them to deliver them and bring them to safety and victory. We can accept this same promise; we also have the benefit of history to show God's faithfulness. We can see how God did preserve his people and redeemed them time and time again from their bondage to their enemies. God will not forget his children! We know it by promise. We know it by history. We know it by faith!
Thank you, Almighty God, for always being near. I know that there are many times when I am not aware of your nearness or of your providence at work or of your miraculous moving in history. Nevertheless, I do believe, dear Father, that you are near even when I feel alone and your presence seems so far away. In those times, dear God, please give me confidence and perseverance to stand through the times of trial so that I can also share in your times of triumph. In Jesus' name. Amen.

I personally have no words or comment for this act of cruelty. My heart aches. The idiocy. The cruelty. I have no words.

Animal cruelty can take many different forms. It includes overt and intentional acts of violence towards animals, but it also includes animal neglect or the failure to provide for the welfare of an animal under one’s control.
In addition to this, it is important to remember animal cruelty is not restricted to cases involving physical harm. Causing animals psychological harm in the form of distress, torment or terror may also constitute animal cruelty.
As a result of there being so many possible forms of animal cruelty, state and territory animal welfare legislation does not attempt to define it in an exclusive way; rather, animal cruelty is described generally as any act or ommission that causes unnecessary or unreasonable harm to an animal.
We will do everything in our power to talk to the right authorities to Implement laws that will hold people that commit horrible infractions like this accountable for their actions.
We should not forget that almost all criminals start killing animals before they attempt to take a human life.
