I'm beginning the journey into the wild today to visit a mountain cabin and ski with friends both new and old. The next time I power my phone on will be a few days into 2017.⠀⠀⠀
I'm really looking forward to the time away to reset and reflect on what has come and gone over the past 12 months and to spend time imagining what might lie ahead. ⠀⠀⠀
Photo from one of my favorite trips of 2016 at the Peyto Hut in the Canadian Rockies, our first stop during our week long ski traverse of the Wapta Icefield.⠀⠀⠀

With linked arms and matched shuffles in the deep snow, I search to see the beautiful world through the eyes of my friends. I think about how wonderful friendship is. How we are meant to give, share and take when it is our turn to lighten our loads. #friendsarethebest 📸@evilmoosemegan
An extended invitation to all from our good friends, @ubcvoc —
Jared Stanley Memorial Lecture:
Tonight 7PM in BUCH A103 at UBC. Please come to this special event. Event is open to everyone, not just members. In January 2005, Jared Stanley, a UBC student, passed away while back country skiing on Mount Seymour. The Parton’s memories of Jared will be followed by a talk given by FX, a member of the Lions Bay Search and Rescue Group.
In the backcountry, where it has taken a bit of effort to get to, I find I meet the most incredible people. I loved these two from California, especially when they chopped lots of wood in the morning. (I cheered on and complimented their muscles and fine athleticism)😁 @casa_de_sanchez #alpineclubofcanada#elizabethparkerhut
"Virtual Reality" aujourd'hui, avec le bulletin de risque d'avalanche qui se stabilise. L'activité glace semble bien lancée pour la dernière semaine. #actionx3#wearerab#alpineclubcan

Am I currently relaxing in the sun at Lake Athabasca? No. 😔 But am I sitting in my amazing blow up @fatboy_original lounge chair in my apartment!? YES!! Plans for the weekend were cancelled so I took the time to concentrate on getting things done and focusing on "me". Even if that means eating my weight in gummy worms and mini eggs...that's what being an adult is all about right? Making the adult decision to eat candy for breakfast (and lunch) and snuggling into the crevice of a tear resistant air filled lawn chair. Ah, this is the life. In reality it is a welcome break to not set an alarm, not have to wash 20 loads of laundry and not have to drive anywhere this weekend. I miss the mountains and lakes but I'll be back soon enough, plus I have these amazing photos and memories to remind me why I put up with the packing and cooking and sore muscles. Enjoy the long weekend everyone! #yegacc#yeg#alpineclubcan#alpineclub#alpineclubofcanada#climbing#rockclimbing#skitouring#hiking#mountains#explorealberta#outdoors#alberta#alpinism#getoutside#scrambling#mountaineering#iceclimbing#mountainlife#mountainadventures
The North Cascades are rugged. Glaciated. These peaks are real close to the Pacific Ocean. Difficult to reach, access, see. The Coast Mountains/Cascades are an extraordinary range. Grateful everyday I get to live near them.
